professorecho
Hi Fusty and WELCOME. I think most of the people here are friendly and tolerant, but I was once the target of a particularly disgruntled poster who claimed I was posting too much and ruining the boards for all the "regulars." He said it was a nice quiet community until I came along, LOL. Well, not one person came to my defense, so you might, at times, find yourself floundering here on your own, but compared to most other boards out there, the trolls here are few and far between. I certainly have curtailed my posting since that attack, but not for that reason alone. As a film historian I'm every bit as interested in theoretical analyses of film as I am in the more generic history or backstage gossip, e.g. who starred in what movie or when the movie was made, etc. and you don't often find much of that discussion going on here. However, for great, stimulating, informative talk about movies in general, there is no other site as fun as this one. So welcome and happy posting! bggalaxy
Sorry if I had not welcomed every new poster on the board. I generally, when I realize a person is new, would try to welcome them in. So many times I welcome a new name and find out it's an oldie with a new log in name. Or the new person has posted so many times before I see their name I figure they are already in the swing of things. I even welcomed back the Prof when I noticed he returned since late spring. Here's a BIG WELCOME TO ALL !
professorecho
Yes, BG and I'm sorry I didn't acknowledge it at the time. I did appreciate it though and was happy someone noticed!!! It's people like you that make these forums worth coming back to.
classicsfan1119
I've been at other message board sites where a thread was used exclusively for Welcoming new people, who would also enter it and tell the rest of the group a little about themselves pertinent to the purpose of the site. Maybe we should consider doing that here. I'm generally one of the first to welcome new folks aboard, but there have been times recently when I simply have not been here to catch everyone, and other times when the amount of time I could spend here in one sitting was sorely, and I do mean "sorely" limited. For sure, it will never be my or many other's intention to "snub" a new member, and it kind of stings to have such implied. So, for anyone I've missed...I do Welcome you! Give some of us a little slack, and I think you'll find that in time we will all get to know you. For awhile there, we had as many as a half-dozen new members signing in on a daily basis...no way to realistically keep up with that. :)ML
therealfuster
you curtailed your posting, due to one disgruntled poster. Would Sam Goldwyn have stopped talking, if someone complained? I think not. From what I'm reading in your post, I certainly hope I can look forward to more, rather than less posts by you! "Nice and quiet communities" are boring and only exist in films with Donna Reed. I like theoretical analyses of a Fellini film, as much as I like discussing shlock films, and I love backstage gossip so go for it. I have released you from your self imposed prison just like Glenda the Good Witch would! Thanks for your post!
loveoldmovies04
You all welcomed me very kindly when I joined these boards and I knew right off how much I was going to love it here and I do! I am sorry if I missed welcoming people new here I am so busy nowadays I have a hard time keeping up with it all. WELCOME ALL! -phoebe
gwtwbooklover
therealfuster so sorry to ask you Did Reed make movies like her TV show?? Because in From Here to Eternity she smoldered. I think she got nice and quiet on the small box.
evh55
therealfuster- I too am sorry if I failed to welcome you. But I seem to remember someone asking about your name - Fuster- and something about it being his wife's maiden name. Was that you? In any case, a belated welcome to you and I hope you enjoy these boards as much as I do.
therealfuster
I like Donna Reed, and she was a good actress. But as you say, her television show gave new meaning to the words "sweetness" and "light". But even in her movies, she was mostly a nice docile lady...except for "From Here to Eternity"....true. Again, she was one of those onscreen actresses like Shirley Jones, who yearned for the prostitute role to give their careers new life. But most of the time, Donna did play parts like Mary Bailey in "It's a Wonderful Life" and that was what I was referring to mostly. Speaking of smoldering... Deborah Kerr recharged her career also in FHTE, and also in "Tea and Sympathy" for sure!
therealfuster
I honestly did not mean to imply that I thought a welcome was obligatory here, or that I was so shy that I needed one. I just could not figure out the comings and goings of people here, and thought maybe I was posting too much. The answers of everyone in this thread, are helping me understand the place better. Yes, I was the one who someone talked about their wife's maiden name with...
evh55
Hey fuster, thanks for the reply. I just wanted to say that I thoroughly enjoy your posts, and those of everyone else on these boards. We classic movie fans are special, and, differences aside, we need to stick together. And this is the place to do it. Vive la cinema!
