Favorite James Stewart roles

James Stewart was truly the gentleman of the screen in his day. Many people say that they haven't seen a Stewart film they never liked. Maybe it was because he went beyond acting and personified the average person so well. He definitely deserved more then his one oscar for "The Philadelphia Story", but At least he has the honor of being nominated four other times. Here's a list of my favorite Stewart films, granted it's hard to do that! I'll keep it to 15:)

Mr.Smith Goes to Washington

You Can't Take it With You

Vertigo

The Man Who Knew Too Much

The Mortal Storm

It's A Wonderful Life

It's A Wonderful World

The Stratton Story

Vivacious Lady

Thunder Bay

Broken Arrow

Winchester 73'

The Spirit of St. Louis

Shenandoah

The Shop Around the Corner

I didn't know it was so hard to pick just 15...their all good!

You're right, that was good-I've burned some music CD's and I have that theme

song "Somwhere Out There" on one of them. It was a really cute movie, and was nice to have him doing a cartoon voice-wish he could have done more of those.

I think what I like most about all the classics is that, you can watch them with your family-in today's world, with the exception of the Disney movies, and some of the stuff they come out with at Christmas time, is NOT Family-Friendly AT ALL!

While I'm on the subject-on another Forum Topic that asked which was the favorite of the Jimmy Stewart/John Wayne Movies-The Shootist, or Liberty Valance (which most, including me said definitely Liberty Valance), I had posted a list of many more movies I felt that Wayne and Stewart should have been in together, but I also think he should have had more roles with:

Cary Grant, Judy Garland and Frank Morgan,Katherine Hepburn-and it would have been nice to see him in some roles with Shirley Temple, Gary Cooper, and Bing Crosby-I will probably be posting some things on discussion forums about those folks too.

I'm glad a few people have mentioned Take Her, She's Mine because that, along with Mr. Hobbs Takes A Vacation are my favorite of his later comedies, with Dear Bridgitte coming in a more distant third.

I also forgot to included SHENANDOAH on my list. What a powerful family film. If I were ever lost or in trouble, I'd want Jimmy to be the one to come looking for me! Nothing stopped him.

Miss G:

"Shenandoah" is a wonderful film. I especially like the "fatherly" talks Stewart has with McClure about women and marriage. They're warm and funny without being too hard on her. It's nicely put against Ross and Forsythe having their own talk about men.

The big fight scene early on reminds me of something John Ford might shoot. Not surprising with Andrew McLaglen directing.
