Enigmatic Titles

Recommended Posts

Earlier today, I saw the last few minutes of Brazil and thought to myself about enigmatic titles. The movie doesn't take place in Brazil, the title comes from a song that the protagonist hums at the end of it, although the theme of torture and dictatorship would not have been inappropriate in eighties Brazil either. Likewise Chinatown doesn't really take place in Chinatown. It is an allusion to the protagonist's past, the femme fatale has Chinese servants, a vital clue is delayed because a Chinese gardener confuses "L" and "R" and the movie ends there. Does anyone think of enigmatic movie titles. Try to avoid titles that come from other media. (Ie. The Wizard of Oz is of course the name of a book, and he isn't actually the protagonist.)
