I got word through another group I belong to that Grapevine Video, that fine purveyor of silents, early talkies, and public domain films, is back in business (since September) and slowly making their old library available again on DVD-R.

Proprietor Jack Hardy not only wants to make Grapevine a great source for famous and obscure classic films, but also a clearing house of information on the best deals in classic films everywhere. There's also a free download available each month, and a free biweekly newsletter packed with news on the latest classic DVD releases and other fun stuff for the classic movie fan.

That is GREAT news, Coffeedan!! I bought a lot of great, hard-to-find Silents from Grapevine in the past. I was disappointed when they folded, so it's almost miraculous that they are back! I will definitely check out the website and will probably be prepared to spend some money, as well!

I just signed up for their newsletter the other day, and I just received my first one. This website/company is a classic movie lovers best friend! Right now they seem to be a little slow with the info on new classic DVD releases etc., but their heart is in it - and I wonder how they get access to those rare titles that they have available? Some good stuff. I only hope they can get their hands on some early pre-codes.

Hurrah for Grapevine! I brought some of my all-time fave silents from Grapevine and am thrilled they're back in business. They had so many fascinating "lost" movies for sale and one of my favorites is "Love's Bandit" starring the mythical Olive Thomas--the former Ziegfeld beauty who married Jack Pickford--brother of Mary--and who died mysteriously in Paris from poison/drugs. "Sex" was another goodie starring Theda Bara's main competition back in the late 1900s--Louise Glaum. Talk about old-fashioned vamps! Louise was great. I also brought a Mary Miles Minter weepie, "The Eyes of Julie". Now, to order my newsletter.
