My Top Ten Films Of All Time.

Recommended Posts

I watched the tv special tonight and was shocked that they did not even mention the best film ever made. So here is my favorite film list of all time.

1. Citizen Kane

2, Casablanca

3. Rebecca

4. Tale Of Two Cities

5. Robin Hood [Errol Flynn]

6. Gas Light

7. The 39 Steps

8. The Big Sleep

9. Captin Blood

10. Petrified Forest

I could not believe they had movies that were okay but not earth shaking like Forest Gump,

Gladiator and etc in the top ten.

We have a lot of films in common in our top 10 and some like The Petrifed Forest that most people wouldn't put there (but Howard Davis Bogie, how can that NOT be one of the best!).

I don't think I have ever seen a list as close to my as yours. Here is mine:

Big Sleep

Petrifed Forest

Casablanca

My Man Godfrey

It's Love I'm After (Howard Davis Dehavilland)

Only Angels Have Wings

Captain Blood

His Kind of Women

Holiday

Ball of Fire (have to have Babs and Coop!).

My favorite actors are Howard, Bogie, Grant than Powell and Actresses are Davis, Dehvailland, Babs and Authur. Of course the list of movies is subject to change. I know I have a lot of comedies. Oh well I feel happy!

It was a TV show on ABC.

Did anyone expect it to be anything but a joke? The lists were probably compiled by little children with moustaches.

After 20 minutes of that show, I found out that Grease is a better musical than Singin' in the Rain. Immediately, I turned the channel and didn't watch the rest of the show. Figured it wouldn't do anything but **** me off.

Agree agree agree !!! Theses shows are lame. Didn't watch myself, too busy watching "Accident " here on the " left " coast , but I really don't know what these shows try to accomplish . At least the AFI shows had SOME sense of film history.

For the record my top ten films are :

On The Waterfront

Chinatown

The Apartment

A Star is Born { 1954 }

Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid

A Hard Day's Night

Last Tango In Paris

The Wizard of Oz

I am not trying to cheat by posting twenty. My top ten are mostly foreign movies of little interest to many here so I have done a more complete list and separated the top ten foreign from the top ten American movies.

They are in order of a database appearance and their place in the list does not indicate preference.

My top movies:

Kuroneko (1968)

The Seven Samurai (1954)

Nikita (1990)

My Neighbor Totoro (1988)

Yojimbo (1961)

Fahrenheit 451 (1967)

The Hidden Fortress (1958)

Rififi (1954)

The Seventh Seal (1957)

Ugetsu Monogatari (1953)

My top American movies:

The Thomas Crown Affair (1968)

All That Jazz (1979)

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (1990)

Death Takes a Holiday (1934)

Heaven Can Wait (1943)

How to Steal a Million (1966)

If I Were King (1938)

Jewel Robbery (1932)

Laura (1944)

Rebecca (1940)

Interesting choice in The Majestic. Now that movie was really knocked by critics, most Carney fans, and did very poorly at the box office but I liked it.

As you know it has a tie in to old movies and of course the blacklisting commie hunting era. Yea, the movie might get a little too mushy at times but it gave me a classic movie vibe. Now I wouldn't list it in my top 10 or even 50 but I felt the movie was a lot better than most of the movies released around the same time. Oh, and we get to see Laudau.

Yeah, I don't know why, james, but I've always loved that movie since the first time I saw it. It does have that old movie vibe, but several parts of it touch soft spots for me. I'm a pianist myself, and the piano parts were great. I grew up around an old Warner movie theater so just the idea of restoring one in the movie had me hooked. It's also one of the few Jim Carey movies I like and Landau is awesome in it! And maybe the reason why critics didn't like it is because it harps too much on what America's all about. Who knows.

I have a list of my top 25 films as of January 2010, which I will be updating soon. You see, every time I watch a film made before 1960, I record it into a Word Document. I made a deal with my self that every 500 movies I would make a list of my favorite 25, ranked. As of now I'm at #962, so once I reach 1000 I'll be making an updated list :)

From what I remember my original list included these fillms:

Singin' in the Rain

Niagara

Anchors Aweigh

Libeled Lady

High Sierra

Union Pacific

The Devil and Miss Jones

Woman of the Year

The Philadelphia Story

Gone With the Wind

Sunset Boulevard

3. White Heat

4. Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye

5. Yankee Doodle Dandy

6. Angel With Dirty Faces

7. Vertigo

8. Bad Seed

9. In Cold Blood

10. Psycho

11. The Birds

12. Mommy Dearest

13. Picture Mommy Dead

14. Gone With the Wind

Okay I got carried away and went over 10 movies lol lol

Love lists like this. I list 250 in my best order :D on IMDB . For here, i'll list the top 10 from that list. I always like to say, it's eclectic and borderline psychotic, like the owner of the list :^0 . I have a WIDE variety, watch virtually anything, and like to rank based on how much I was entertained. Just a true favorites list

1. Casablanca

2. Dial M For Murder

3. Return of the Living Dead

4. Jurassic Park

5. Dumb and Dumber

6. It's a Wonderful Life

7. Invasion of the Body Snatchers(1956)

8. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith

9. Rear Window

10. Forrest Gump

We're all different. If we all had the same favorites or top 10, would that be any fun? Nope. I like the fact I can enjoy a wide variety of movies from all genres and years. Some of these will never show up on TCM, but, they entertained me :)
