Strangelove

I want to know why they didn't show "Dr Strangelove" at like ten o clock during that Peter Sellers night. I had to wake up at 4:30 to watch it, and then had to go to school. But, it was well worth it. Hilarious, dark, and masterfully directed. Being on at 4:45 WAS better than it being on at like 1:00 or 2:00. Then it's hard to stay up late AND get up the next day. All I had to do was go to bed a little earlier.

I guess you must have a VCR on your Christmas list;-)

In any case, Dr. Strangelove is a lot like To Kill A Mockingbird. TCM shows it many, many times (virtually every month) at all different times so that staying up shouldn't be necessary. For example, a quick look at the schedule shows that Strangelove is on:

01/08/2005 08:00 PM

01/09/2005 06:00 PM

02/24/2005 11:15 AM

within the next couple of months.

We've already bought like 3 VCR's and they never work in our dang tv. Also, I've been waiting three months to see the end of that movie. I feel asleep the first time I watched it. I liked it alot, but I was tired that day. I didn't want to wait another month. It's that movie that was on like every week in the summer, and then I decided to watch it, and it wasn't on for about three months. I decided to seize the opportunity.

but exactly where are you buying your vcr's from?

Taiwan? The back of a truck?

Seriously, I'm sure all here have extreme concern for anyone who has to continually get up at 4:45am to watch TCM movies, not that I have not occasionally done it myself and are worried about you, as a fellow fan of TCM and particularly of Stanley Kubrick.

I may not be an expert, but perhaps I or we can all help you figure out how to get your vcr timers working, so that you don't flunk out of school, due to narcolepsy in class from watching TCM films all night long and thru the morning hours.

Yes, Venerados...I saw the Sellers biopic last night and thought that although well cast and acted, it dwelt too much on Sellers emotional and mental struggles. It always bothers me when a film singles out one thing about a real person, and then beats it to death, especially when it's something as tragic as this. I also thought that the flights of fantasy that we were asked to take through the mind of Sellers were excessive and unnecessary. All in all, I found this HBO movie to be disappointing, and for the most part "exploitive" of a talented man that it would have been better to have simply left alone, as if we all needed to know what they brought to us. I'll always love Peter Sellers best of all in "Being There", and that's how I'm going to remember him, in spite of what HBO thought I needed to know about him and his life.

I'm glad I missed it. I think I'll keep my distance from bio film of favorite actors. Though she wasn't one of my favorites (I did not dislike her) I can't watch Joan Crawfords films anymore because of Mommy Dearest. I know it suck but I can't help thinking what she was doing after they yelled cut.

Well I guess bgg and stoney won't be using any more wire hangers......EVER!!!!! But seriously, I don't mind if they show us the warts (IF TRUE) but the fantasy sequences didn't do much for me either. The trick is to accept the person with their faults and use it to better understand and appreciate them. After all not everyone is W O N D E R F U L . As much as I despise many of the things Sinatra did, I still respect him as an artist and have no trouble enjoying either his music or films. But keep the SOB away from my booze & my women :)
