Yes, "Dingus" was Jesse James' nickname. There are a couple of different stories floating around about how he got that nickname. Heaven only knows which story is correct. Of course, the word "dingus" didn't mean the same thing back then as it does today. Many sources say that Jesse James got that nickname from a word that he would always use. He apparently didn't like to swear, so he would make up his own words to replace the curse words. I'd like to think that this story is true.
