The answer was "The Miracle of the White Stallions" (1963).

 

The term "Airs Above the Ground" refers to a series of high level, classical dressage movements in which the horse leaves the ground.  The two most well-known breeds that are trained for this are Lipizzaner and Andalusian horses.  The film's plot involved Lipizzaner horses and the Spanish Riding School in Vienna during WW II.
