therealfuster
Anyone here see "Counsellor at Law" on TCM the other day, with John Barrymore? I've seen it before, but never noticed that director Vincent Sherman was an actor in it...as arrestee, Harry Becker. Sherman was so young in it, that he had to be accompanied to the attorney's office...with his mother! I thought he was quite good when he told off John Barrymore in his office. So...anyone know why Sherman quit acting and turned toward directing? By the way, the movie was great also starring Melvyn Douglas, Isabel Jewell, Thelma Todd, and Bogey's former wife, tough girl Mayo Methot.
brackenhe
I thought this movie was great. I wish and hope TCM shows it again. I noticed Sherman in the credits but I'll admit I had to look up the credits on IMDB to figure out who he was. No wonder those women he said he bedded wanted to bed him. MEOW! He was hot. moviejoe79
I've seen this movie too - In fact we had a discussion on the boards about it before - I believe in the "Favorites" thread. It really is an early 30's gem - with that great cast headed by John Barrymore with an amazing performance. I thought he was great in it. And I love the fast moving pace of it all. And Bebe Daniels was great too. I've always liked her in "42nd Street," but I don't think I saw her in any other movies until this one. It's good stuff, and I also hope that TCM plays it again, as well as other early 30's Universal and Paramount classics.
richardny4me
Wow, I did not even realize he was still alive. Born in 1906! He directed some of my favorites : ADVENTURES OF DON JUAN, MR. SKEFFINGTON, and the still under-rated ThE HARD WAY. He deserves an honorary Oscar just for longevity.
therealfuster
with you. Sherman did have a very modern look, in this film and was quite attractive. Maybe we can track him down and do the interview for Robert Osborne?
edgedrv
Some time back (last year?) Sherman talked with Osborne and introduced two of his best films with Ann Sheridan: THE UNFAITHFUL and NORA PRENTISS.
