Deborah Kerr question

Recommended Posts

There is a promo in one of her early films, before she made it big in the states, that says something like "Deborah Kerr, which ryhmes with Star!" I just recently saw this promo either on TCM or a movie of hers that I rented on Netflix. Actor John Kerr (South Pacific) and no relation, pronounces his name the same way. They starred in Tea and Sympathy together (good movie). Of course I have no idea if it has anything to do with her Scottish heritage or how they pronounce their words over there.

I've been to Scotland, and she doesn't sound anything like the Scottish I met. She definitely sounds more upper crust British, the Scots I met sound like Mel Gibson in Braveheart or to put it another way, you really can't understand a word they say even though they are speaking English.
