3.  B- movie director and producer William Castle bought the rights to the book.  However, Robert Evans would only make the movie under the condition that Castle would not direct: "“It was too good for Bill Castle."  Castle was credited as producer and made a cameo.

4.  Frank Sinatra demanded that wife Mia Farrow drop out of the movie after shooting had begun, because he wanted her to co-star with him in The Detective.  She (wisely) refused, and he served her with divorce papers on the film's set.

6.  Roman Polanski had Mia Farrow walk into real oncoming traffic for one scene, reassuring her that no one would hit a pregnant woman.  Polanski filmed the scene with a hand held camera, following Farrow into traffic, because no one else on the crew would do it.

8.  The movie's "Bramford" apartment building was modeled after the real-life Dakota where some of the exterior scenes were shot.  Ira Levin named the building after Dracula writer Bram Stoker.   Another building that inspired Levin was Alwyn Court which is rather spooky, too:

10.  To help the casting director find the supporting actors, Polanski drew sketches of how he saw the characters who lived in the Bramford.  That lead to Ruth Gordon and Sidney Blackmer being cast.

10.  Burt Lancaster made a great deal of money from this hit movie.  He got 10% of the profits once it reached $50 million.  He starred in the movie so that the studio would finance less commercial projects he was interested in making.
