2.   The name "Norma Desmond" came from a combination of the silent film star Norma Talmadge and silent film director William Desmond Taylor.  Taylor, who was romantically involved with Talmadge, was shot and killed in 1922.  His murder was never solved.

8.  The  Twilight  Zone   did  an  take  off  on  Sunset  Blvd.  The  Sixteen  Millimeter  Shrine  episode  had the  stars  Ida  Lupino  and  Martin  Balsam.  The plot of this episode  was  similar to  Sunset  Blvd.

9.  Monty Clift reportedly turned down the role of Joe Gillis on the advice of his friend Libby Holman.  Holman was 16 years older than Clift and was worried about unfavorable suggestions that she was Cliff's own Norma Desmond, an aging actress using the handsome young star.

2.  Richard Widmark and that wild laugh (spoiler alert) as he pushes someone down the stairs (who is in a wheelchair).  I think that role made him an actor to be reckoned with.  Versatile right up until his death (could play good, bad, and somewhere in between).

9.  Inspired Tommy Udo fan clubs across the country.  According to the independent UK:  "... spawning a dozen Tommy Udo fan clubs amongst anti-social teen boys, with even real-life Brooklyn gangsters imitating him."
