Performers with the same last name...

Recommended Posts

There's only one Swanson, one Menjou, one Olivier, one Redford and one Streep. But there are plenty of other famous names that seem to have a familiar echo...

You cannot get more different than Steve McQueen and Butterfly McQueen.

Grace Kelly and Gene Kelly had the same first initial.

Loretta Young and Robert Young never appeared in a film together, did they?

But Robert Taylor and Elizabeth Taylor did...more than one film, in fact.

How about Margaret O'Brien and Edmond O'Brien...?

And Mel Ferrer and Jose Ferrer...

...William Powell and Jane Powell...

...Janet Leigh and Vivien Leigh...

...Katharine Hepburn and Audrey Hepburn...

Or what about Vaughn Monroe and Marilyn Monroe...

...and Miriam Hopkins and Anthony Hopkins...

...Barbara La Marr and Hedy Lamarr...

...the list is probably endless!

I'm sorta surprised you didn't mention the actors and the movie that first popped into my mind when you started this thread, TB..... *Tea and Sympathy* , with Deborah and John Kerr.

(...but tell ya what..in the future when I think back to your oversight here, and I will..I will try to be kind!) ;)

Really Jeff??? Are you sure about that? I always thought Dirk's last name was pronounced using a "d" sound and not the "t" sound like Bogie's was.

(...but then again, you know how those Brits are, what with them throwing in all those superfluous "u"s in words like "labor" and "color" and such and not pronouncin' those "u"s at all...maybe they DID pronounce his name with a "t" sound, eh?!)

Mark Stevens and Stella Stevens

Jean Peters and Brock Peters

Gene Tierney and Lawrence Tierney

Diane Baker and Carol Baker

There were quite a few Powells: William Powell and Jane Powell (like you mentioned) as well as Eleanor Powell and Dick Powell - and none were related.

Kent Smith and Alexis Smith and Maggie Smith

another Young: Gig Young

Frances Dee and Sandra Dee and Ruby Dee

I gave myself a mild headache jogging my brain just now!!

Uh huh..yep TB. But THEN, of course, there was THIS "Lamarr", who we should NEVER forget!....

But they sound so darn similar.

In an industry where performers are always asked to change their names, I'm surprised no one ever looked at Bogarde's and realized how similar it sounds to possibly the most famous leading man of them all.

Well, I suppose that's true. But then again, ya never know. I mean, somethin' like that could've gotten completely out o' hand, ya know.

Yep, just look at what name poor Arnold Dorsey, that '60s/'70s British crooner, got stuck with, eh?!

(...for the uninitiated among us here, the name Mr. Dorsey would eventually be known by was.."Engelbert Humperdinck"!!!)
