Oh my gosh!!! Joan Blondell!!! Glenda Farrell!!! Jean Harlow!!! Fay Wray!!! And I will agree, Ginger Rogers in her early films? Va-va-va-voom!!!

You have to look at who's stood the test of time without their celebrity fading and who's still found sexually appealing by subsequent generations that may or may not have seen her movies. She's the epitome of feminine pulchritude and also vulnerability...she's Marilyn Monroe.

I'm so sick of the "V" word around Monroe -- she was a talented, likable actress with good comedic skills, but she increasingly appears locked to her time. Someone like Carole Lombard has more to say to today's women than Marilyn does; Monroe was a victim, Lombard a victor.

Oh no? Check out Brit Ekland's dance in *The Wicker Man*. That just might change your mind. I'd give Catherine Deneuve a close second... well, not her in *Repulsion*. :)

I disagree. She's not locked in her time, she's an icon for the ages. Are you familiar with Tumblr? It's a social networking site, mosly about images, for people that love blogging visual stimili. It's hip, it's young, it's cool...and not a day goes by without someone sending a (usually rare) photograph of Marilyn across my dashboard. She's very relevant.

Thank you, NormaShearerGirl ! To ask a simple question on these boards and not get an answer feels like the equivalent of asking a question in a room full of people and nobody listens or replies. I appreciate your taking a minute to respond to my question.

*NormaShearerGirl -*

*In honor of TCM's Battle of the Blondes, who do you think is the sexiest blonde?*

*mr6666 -*

*so, does anyone think the "BOTB: thing as SOTM just a tad sexist (so where are the male blondes?)*

Well, here's my Pick :

James Cagney

Van Johnson

Michael Caine

Peter Ronson

Robert Redford

Dolph Lundgren

James Spader

Owen Wilson

Brad Pitt

Matt Damon

Leonardo Dicaprio

;)

Though my heart belongs to June Allyson, Veronica Lake is featured next month and has been known to short-circuit my brain. They're the only exceptions to my preference for reds and brunettes .

I pick Lana Turner if you count women who aren't natural blondes but are most famous for the dyed blonde hair. If you only count natural blondes I'll go with Grace Kelly.

Carole Lombard

Marilyn Monroe

Jean Harlow

Brit Eckland

Lana Turner

Veronica Lake

In no particular order

Ooops almost forgot Ginger Rogers

Interesting to see that Ginger Rogers was not included among the 18 blondes this month, especially since most of her triumphs came while wearing that shade of hair.

Yeah, but she's primarily associated with red hair - hence her name. Also, in several of the old Fred and Ginger pics, ( ok, they're in b& w, but that's why we're told what her hair colour is) Fred refers to his new love as a "red head". Maybe a strawberry, lighter-hued red-head, - hey, I believe the word usually used to describe it is "ginger" !

I've seen the Wicker Man and have always thought Britt Ekland looks a little like Bardot. Don't know why that would change my mind according to you.

Bardot might be the greatest thing I've ever seen watching movies. Directors would spend the entire film ogling over her and giving constant close ups of her face and body. And she had a tremendous screen presence that can't just be explained by looks or acting ability. She needs to be shown more on TCM.

She also had a huge influence on fashion. More so than anyone imo, outside of Audrey Hepburn.

Of that list, Cagney appeals to me the most. I also think Alan Ladd was a sexy blonde. Generally, though I prefer guys with dark hair/eyes.
