2000 TO PRESENT MOVIE TRIVIA

Recommended Posts

REVIVING THE THREAD:

Miami Airport. Two New Yorkers, hit men, are leaving town after a wasted trip -- a hit that did not come off. Exiting from their cab, they drop a bag and their scoped rifle falls out. They freeze. A uniform police officer, female, stops and looks at the situation. Picks up the rifle, checks it; unloaded. She's here on very pressing business, and has no time for this. She removes the bolt from the rifle, shoves it under her gunbelt, and hands them the rifle. Curt comment about "enjoy your trip", then she catches up with her own group.

First hitman: "You know, Miami sucks, -- but the cops are nice."

Second hitman "You got that right!"

Film?

Sourced from a novel by a syndicated humor columnist based in Miami, who had also created a sitcom based on his family.

Would you believe that commentaries on this film sometimes resorted to the term "chaotic" ??

Tall, hunky young cop, squad-car partner to the female officer, mentioned earlier, blunders into a situation where he finds welcome. Goes into better-paying work as a male stripper in women's bars. This actor currently has a role in a sitcom that has been around for several years now. The actress playing the female cop works sometimes as a standup comic.

Football weekend. Town full of Gators fans, making crowded streets and bars, and local Talk Radio drumming it up. The out-of-town gunmen, weapons merchants, thieves and Federal cops make it a volatile mix.

The nuclear bomb weighs hundreds of pounds, but the thieves who think it's gold manage to get it on a small plane, then they hijack the plane while it's still on the tarmack. Fiddling around, they have armed the damn thing, and close-up shots occasionally show the audience into the device as the timer ticks down.

Chaotic cross-thread plotting and sitcom coincidence get the forlorn father, the thieves and the bomb all on the hijacked plane together. The father sabotages the passenger door so that it will not close. After takeoff, over the ocean, the plane goes into the water, but without immediately breaking up. The bomb slides out the passenger door. A strong and determined (but stupid) thief is still hanging on as it plummets toward the ocean floor -- when it goes off.

The beleaguered father who only wants his son's respect and affection back. -- Has a sitcom running on ABC now. In the past he starred in a long-running sitcom that divided his time between his family and his job as a Fixit guru on a television show.

A real off-the-books fringe character. Camps out of sight in vacant lots, and sympathetic cooks and maids feed him. Lives his life in quest of Doritos.

A smooth thriller where the actors are required to create characters who suggest intrigue and secrets. A young man is hired and the task at hand has undertones of an ominous history , a dead body, possibly an affair, and possibly war crimes....

An abandoned car leads to a scene later in the film where the GPS system starts to unravel some clues. Like North By Northwest the haunting score keeps us in suspense...cell phones and modern technology play an important role.

Not Woody...there is no hint of humor in this movie. This director has won an Oscar, also wrote the screenplay.

The setting is on an island in dreary Winter. Thus we have a ferry involved, also a car with a GPS and aircraft are involved.

To tell you the task assigned to our star would be to give you the title of the film.

Oooh...you are sooo close. This film and Shutter Island came out at the same time but critics and audiences thought this a better film. We have an abandoned car, on an island ferry. From there we go to the streets of London where our star wins an assignment that sets up a slick plot.

Next clue: The scene in London takes place in a publishing firm's office. From there, a brief street scene and then we go back to American east coast island.

A writer who is thought to be associated with undesirables and is writing propoganda against his country's government has his apartment tapped by the authorites, but he never caught on in this foreign film which won an Oscar. Name the film.

A typewriter with a red cartridge is used and hidden in the floor of a doorway and the wife eventually tells the authorities where they can find it, and the guy monitoring the wiretap has compromised his job by being emotionally involved with his project.

If there are no guesses from this, I'll open the thread on Monday.
