bhryun
Has TCM ever shown the 60's Bond movies?
brackenhe
I've been watching a lot of Bond lately since The Encore Channels have been showing them. I think they must belong to a rival company now. I do remember seeing them a lot on TBS about 10 years ago.
bhryun
The Bond films are still owned by MGM, not part of the sale to Turner.
bhryun
So other MGM movies have been shown on TCM.
movieslover1000
The Bond films are not owned by Turner. The Bond films started out as a United Artist series. In the early 80's, MGM acquired the UA catalog, along with the rights to the Bond line. In the late 80's, Turner acquired the MGM library of MGM pre-86 and WB pre-48. The UA films (re Bond, Pink Panther) were not a part of the sale, hence they remained with MGM and now belong to Sony (Columbia Studios) when they acquired the MGM. bhryun
That's a shame, the 60's Bonds are the greatest things ever.
markfp2
I would think that MGM would prefer to lease them to a commercial channel or a pay channel like Encore or HBO where they can demand and get higher licensing fees than TCM would be willing to pay. After all, we sure don't want TCM to "make a pact with the devil" like AMC did just to get the Bond films.
