Bolesroor
Oh my god. I hope anyone who hasn't seen the Thin Man movies (not you guys- I know you've seen 'em) is taking advantage of the marathon tonight. I LOVE William Powell... but I LOVE LOVE Myrna Loy. She is so beautiful, so funny, and in my opinion, so under-rated... she has such a light touch... and she just sweetens any movie she's in. I think Nora Charles was her best role... it seemed to let her be herself more than any other. What a doll...
Dargo
Join the thousands here, Boleroor! Though, I'd have to say my favorite of her roles would be her Milly Stephenson in *The Best Years of Our Lives.* (...but yeah, she was great in everything she ever did)
Bolesroor
I am a big sap for "The Best Years Of Our Lives." It takes a WHOLE LOT for a movie to make me cry but there is something about that movie that is so sad, so real... was it the first time Hollywood showed the downside/depression to soldiers returning home instead of the gung-ho yo-Joe WW2 action thrill-rides? Anyway Dargo great point! *BONUS- Little-Known Thin Man Movies* (For Series Die-Hards Only) - The Thin Man Gains Weight - Bastard Child Of The Thin Man - The Thin Man Does Nothing - Fatal Stroke Of The Thin Man It's a shame TCM isn't including these in the marathon. Blondie7
Yep, Myrna Loy is fantastic. I love love when she argues in her roles. Such a confident lady.

Swithin
Many years ago -- I think it was on a very icy night in January, 1982 -- I helped Myrna Loy put her boots on.

AndyM108
I can't even imagine anyone NOT falling in love with Myrna Loy. I've now seen nearly 30 of her films, and so far not a cough in a carload. Loy and Powell are so far and away the best screen couple for what the baseball people call "career value" that it'll take several centuries for any other pair to overtake them. Swithin
I was at that time a junior staff member of a large NYC cultural institution. We rented our space to the National Board of Review for their annual awards presentation. A special award was given to James Cagney. I was assigned to be Mr. Cagney's bodyguard, to escort him in to the building, on a miserable, icy, January evening, (someone else escorted his wife) and up to the floor where the festivities were held. At the end of the event, I had to escort him downstairs to the office where he would await his car. When he was leaving the upstairs floor, the paparazzi were everywhere, trying to talk to him and photograph him. I was trying to lead him downstairs. Lauren Bacall shouted at the paparazzi, "Why don't you leave him alone, he's an old man!!" I brought him downstairs where he waited with Mona Washbourne, who also received an award. Then -- I may be getting the sequence wrong -- I went back upstairs. Myrna Loy was sitting on a chair in an elevator. The door of the elevator was propped open. Ms. Loy needed help putting her boots on. I helped her. She was lovely. I was fairly young and -- forgive me for inflicting politics into this -- was kind of thrilled that Myrna Loy, a good liberal Democrat from Montana -- had chosen my city in which to live out the rest of her life. It was a great evening. I have a photo of myself with James Cagney and Mona Washbourne.

markbeckuaf
OMG, yes, she is hot and what a great actress!!! I've seen The Thin Man flix a million times, but I was up nearly all night digging on them last night! Always a joy, and two of my favorite screen stars--William and Myrna!! VP19
If you liked the Nick and Nora films, wait till next Thursday, when you see Powell and Loy in their other collaborations. Wonderful stuff, and they had incredible chemistry. Nice to see all the Loy love on this thread. Myrna is my second favorite actress of all time, trailing only Carole Lombard (and it's too bad they never starred in a film together, particularly in a comedy; their styles would probably have complemented each other's beautifully). markbeckuaf
Oh yes, VP19, I'm definitely looking forward to next week also!!! This month has been grove-a-licious with all the William Powell flix too!!
Sepiatone
Myrna Loy! Damn! My lifelong fantasy was if I couldn't have a WIFE like Myrna Loy, I wished I had a MOM like her! And I know what the man said about "The Best Years of Our Lives" making him cry...for me, it's the scene when Homer finally puts his arms around Wilma, and the look on Wilma's face! Chokes me up every time!( I'm getting misty-eyed just TYPING this!) Sepiatone
NormaShearerGirl
Myrna Loy is one of my all-time favorite actresses ever! I love her in all of her movies because she's a great actress and always a delight to watch. Even before she was famous she stole all of her scenes. I love the person she was off the screen as well. She was a strong woman who helped needy causes, was open-minded, and a liberal feminist. What a great lady! There aren't enough words to describe how great she is!
