Goofy scheduling in April

The TCM database can be wrong, but so far I'm finding all of Doris Day's movies bunched together in the first week of April:

4/1

3:45PM Some Like It Hot (1959)

4/2

9:45PM By the Light of the Silvery Moon (1953)

11:30PM My Dream Is Yours (1949)

3AM Romance on the High Seas

4:45AM Tea For Two (1950)

4/3

6:30AM IT's A Great Feeling

10PM That Touch of Mink

4:00AM Tunnel of Love (1958)

4/4

8:00AM Billy Rose's Jumbo (1962)

8PM Midnight Lace (1960)

11:45PM THe Winning Team (1952)

1:30AM Julie (1956)

3:30AM West Point Story (1950)

4/5

8PM Please Don't Eat the Daisies

12AM The Glass Bottom Boat (1966)

2AM It Happened To Jane (1959)

4:00AM April In Paris (1952)

4/6

8PM Love Me or Leave Me (1955)

5:15PM Amazing Dr Clitterhouse (1938)

10:15PM Young Man with a Horn (1950)

This makes no sense, so maybe TCM programmers are still playing with the schedule. Just thought I'd show you that - to show some consistency - we apparently are getting our monthly dose of "Some Like It Hot" on April 1 of all days.

Good news though, "Another Man's Poison" is currently scheduled for April 22 at 8PM. Until I can search the TCM database for April entries via metatags like I usually do, this was the only particulary interesting entry, besides Midnight Lace, that I could find.

I'm sure the schedule is not finalized, but usually what already is there is pretty much correct, and that is why I am confused as to why the schedule has several consecutive days and nights of Doris Day instead of having her tribute spread out over a month. It must be a mistake.

Why? What's so strange about doing a tribute over consecutive days? ?:|

Apparently nothing is so strange about it. The first six days of April are viewable by looking at the weekly schedule for 3/31:

http://www.tcm.com/schedule/weekly.html?tz=est&sdate=2012-03-31

Here it is what I have so far for the month of April if you want to see it. When the metatags start working for April I'll fill in the rest.

Is Day the April Star of the Month? She was born on April 3rd so April would be a great month to feature her. As most know she released a new album and thus is getting a lot more press (e.g. the L.A. Times has had two articles about her, one with an interview, the last week or so).

Anyhow, it looks like Day is getting her days!

Yes, Doris Day is April star of the month, so having so many of her movies on did not surprise me. What surprised me was seeing them all clumped together over consecutive nights.

I believe that typically the SOTM just gets one day a week. e.g. Powell every Thursday last month.

So I see your point. I wonder if there was some type of conflict with another theme in April that might cause TCM to bunch the Day movies at the start of the month.

> What surprised me was seeing them all clumped together over consecutive nights.

As Michael, the WebAdmin, has repeatedly said, the schedule is not to be considered finalized until it is announced.

Just because six days are posted online does not mean that those six days are finalized or that the overall schedule for April won't change.

It is also the month that the Film Festival will be held in Hollywood and there is always programming included that highlights what is going on at the Festival.

So, based on what Michael has said, it's a schedule that is a work in progress and could change so these first six days should be taken with a grain of salt.

Doris Day being Star of the Month and films and programming that highlight the Film Festival are the two things not likely to change.

i just read that on April 18th that TCM is actually airing two movies that i've been requesting for over 2 years now, *(back when you didn't have to register an account to use the Request a Movie feature.)*

*Beach Ball (1965)* and *Girls on the Beach (1965)*.

some may think of these movies as corny beach party nonsense, but it would actually mean alot to me to finally see these again after such a very long time. if TCM ends up cutting either of these movies out of their finalized April schedule, i might stop watching this network. i remember a while back they had *Andy Warhol's Resturant (1965)* scheduled and they deleted it seriously the night before it was supposed to air.. mfw X-(

CHARLEY'S AUNT starring Jack Benney and Kay Francis will air on April 9th. Glad to see it. It's a fun flick!

Also, Chester Morris continues as Boston **** with: BOSTON **** GOES HOLLYWOOD; THE CHANCE OF A LIFETIME; AFTER MIDNIGHT WITH BOSTON ****; and ONE MYSTERIOUS NIGHT.

It looks like the daytime theme for April first is all comedies, comedy teams, and comedians for an "April Fools" theme.

And on the 7th, unless there's a version I never heard of, I'm sure you mean that THE INVISIBLE MAN is from 1933.

Thanks for going to all the effort to give us these sneak previews of the upcoming schedules!

There have been other, rare, occasions where the SOTM features have been shown in one week -- I think Gregory Peck, Bogart's first showing. . .

It'll be interesting to see if the rest of the programming follows that pattern.

(Now, if they'd include *Storm Warning* ....)

Calvinnme, thank you for posting this much of the schedule. I'm glad to see *They Came to Cordura*, a thoughtful western which isn't as well-known as it should be, and *The Conspirators*, a Hedy Lamarr film which I'd missed a couple of years ago when it was last shown.

Yes, Doris and I have a birthday on the 3rd so I expect to see a few films of her's. But, its Brando's birthday and a few other stars also. So TCM has their choice and if its Doris Day, I approve ! B-)

( please don't take me seriously LOL )

The latest for the April schedule. What I'm missing are the small films and films for which there is no TCM article, which is how I am finding the dates.

April 9 seems to be dedicated to Ward Bond on his birthday.

April 10 seems to be dedicated to Harold S. Bucquet since that is his birthday.

April 12 seems to be dedicated to Ann Miller on her birthday.

April 13 seems to be dedicated to Stanley Donen on his birthday.

April 16 seems to be dedicated to Peter Ustinov on his birthday.

Primetime April 16-April 20 appears to be a 60's tribute to Spring break with beach movies and romances from the saddle shoe era. I'm sure Fred C. Dobbs will be thrilled. :)

April 18 during the day is dedicated to baseball films.

April 24 primetime is dedicated to Barbara Striesand.

April 26 appears to be dedicated to Tennessee Williams.

April 27 primetime is about boarding houses????

April 30 during the day has a tribute to Eve Arden on her birthday.

Primetime April 30 is dedicated to the films of Jean Negulesco.

calvinme: I applaud your perseverance and dedication regarding the TCM Schedule Game. As sort of an homage to the proverbial blind squirrel, I have stumbled upon one additional title.

http://www.tcm.com/tcmdb/title/311/Meet-the-Baron/

4/20

12:30PM Meet the Baron (1933)

The baron to be met is Munchausen, supported by James Durante, ZaSu Pitts, Edna Mae Oliver, and Ted Healy and them three. TCM showed it on 11/09/10, but my recorder hiccupped, so its return is most welcome.

Incidentally, following the link to Jerry Howard’s person page tells us that his next appearance on TCM will be in 1971’s Fiddler on the Roof during 31 days of Oscar.

If I were a rich man, nyuk nyuk nyuk nyuk nyuk nyuk nyuk…

Thanks for the extra title. Maybe it will help me figure out a possible theme for April 20 and add even more to the schedule!

UPDATE: Thanks to your hint I figured out that April 20 contained a tribute to Jimmy Durante. It's not his birthday so it looks like it's only four films.

Wow, on April 27th they are playing one of my favorite movies in prime time (a place I never seen it aired before!!!) at 9:45 EST. IT ALL CAME TRUE - starring Humphrey Bogart, Ann Sheridan and Jeffrey Lynn. It is definitely a different type of Bogie film and I love it. It isn't available in the Warners Archive. Such a sweet, yet funny movie...and Ann sings!
