skimpole
Here's an interesting idea for a thread. When was the first time you agreed with the Academy's choice? When did you last agree with them? Picture: 1929-1930: All Quiet on the Western Front 2003: The Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King Actor 1942: James Cagney, Yankee Doodle Dandy 2007: Daniel Day-Lewis, There Will Be Blood Actress: 1951: Vivian Leigh, A Streetcar Named Desire 2006: Helen Mirren, The Queen (And yet it's Penelope Cruz that stays in the memory.) cinemanut
Well, since I have been watching the show? First time : 1975 when Cuckoo's Nest swept the top five awards, thought that was awesome. Last time: Natalie Portman for Black Swan, last year. But overall I think the academy has gotten more wrong than right in the last 15-20 years. But not in all catagories. Sometimes they do well, sometimes [ Titanic over L.A. Confidential in 1997 for one example ] they don't.
