Correct, stick. A name not cast-listed, but used by others to address that character. The American sailors adapted the form of address that the Chinese locals used for him. I was sort of hoping that the post would come to the attention of the member with the username JakeHolman.

The term is a movable nickname. Where a Gringo might address a fellow Gringo as "hey, Mac," he might also address an Hispanic man or boy as "hey, Chico", The one at the focus of this question had a strong support part in a very popular action Western. In the sequel six years later, (played by another actor), he is killed in the early scenes. Old friends re-assemble to avenge him and to help his family and friends.


It is mentioned in passing that they had never known his real name. He had been a loyal comrade-at-arms, and the name had never been that important.

The first movie was about outlaws, harassing local farms. -- Driven away by hired gunmen. "Chico" started to ride away with the surviving winners. Then he turned back and joined the farmers who were returning to their crops. Fadeout...At the opening of the sequel, Chico's community is again under attack from a new group of outlaws. A new plot starts.
