filmlover
Theorizing that one could time travel within the twentieth century, filmlover stepped into the Quantum Time Tunnel DeLorean Accelerator and vanished. He woke to find himself trapped in 1939 for a year, seeing newspaper movie ads and articles, and driven by an unknown force to report history as it happened for the TCM Message Board. And so filmlover finds himself leaping from time to time, hoping each time that his next leap will be the leap home. To all who can see this...I left 1939 and thought I would be coming back to 2012, but woke up here in 1955. Oh...boy. EugeniaH
Terrific new thread, filmlover! Great, I'm the first to start the applause....
VP19
You've got nine months and a few thousand miles to go before you can meet up with Marty McFly, so enjoy the Twin Cities for a while. When the weather warms come April, take in some baseball with the St. Paul Saints or their American Association archrivals, the Minneapolis Millers, who are playing their final season in Nicollet Park. Come next year, they'll be playing not in Minneapolis at all, but in a new stadium in some little suburb south of town called Bloomington. Who'd want to do anything there? EugeniaH
filmlover, if you don't mind my asking, how did you get these 1955 clippings? Did you buy them and scan them in, or did you do research at the library...?
filmlover
Purchased a lot of old newspapers. By the way, to those who think we are in 1955 for the rest of the year...the Quantum Time Tunnel DeLorean Accelerator has a habit of pulling one out when you least expect it and depositing you elsewhere in time, so don't get too comfortable. fredbaetz
-Anyone notice that Radio City Theater promoting the "Last Day" for the "Silver Chalice" with Jack Palance, Virginia Mayo, Pier Angeli, but no Paul Newman. His first film. Maybe he was happy about the omission. Remember he took a ad out when it played on TV asking people not to watch it and apologizing for his performance. It drew high ratings. The film also became known as "Paul Newman and the Holy Grail"....
filmlover
The Feb. 1st ad shows "Introducing Paul Newman" after the three others.

scottman1932
It's kind of amusing to see Porky Pig along with Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Pluto in the 'Disneyrama' ad. I wonder if he was having a contract dispute with "J.L." like Elmer Fudd had in THE BIG SNOOZE?
filmlover
This is a special day for ol' filmlover. It may have been why I was yanked from my time travel in 1939 right to 1955 without getting home to 2012. It was on this day in 1955 that I was born. And it seems like the newspaper for that day must have known how much of a film lover filmlover would be because there are a LOT of ads and articles today: Sunday, February 6th, 1955

filmlover
We really need to get a lot of text messages in here. As it is now, the many images in this thread take minutes to download before it opens. That being the case, I guess I will have to skip a few days of these ads and articles until it is easier to open with more more text. By the by, there is a surprise coming to this thread at the end of this month!
