Bonhams will be hosting an early preview of highlights from its Entertainment Memorabilia auction in June. Works on view at Club TCM for event passholders will include select pieces from The Gaston Collection of original movie poster and lobby art. Created by three brothers, who ran a commercial art business out of a studio located in the basement of the Fox Theater in Long Beach, CA, this collection is comprised of approximately 80 original works of art and portrays such timeless stars as Fred Astaire, Charlie Chaplin, Claudette Colbert, Joan Crawford, Bette Davis, Marlene Dietrich, Errol Flynn, Katharine Hepburn, William Powell, Ginger Rogers, Spencer Tracy and Mae West, among others.

The controversial *Call Her Savage*, Clara Bow's second to last feature, screens at the 2012 Classic Film Festival as part of the "Discoveries" series of films. The film is being presented with a newly restored print from the Museum Of Modern Art.

_Classic Film Festival In 3-Dimensions_

 

French historian and archivist Serge Bromberg curates and presents "Retour De Flamme / 3-D Rarities 1900-2003", a program of intermational short films made in various 3-D processes. Besides early Lumiere Brothers films, the line-up includes Walt Disney's *Melody*, the first 3-D cartoon ever exhibited and the 1939 World's Fair technicolor Industrial film *Motor Rhythm* (originally titled In Tune With Tomorrow when shown at the Chrysler Pavillion) which was released theatrically in 1953.

The program also will feature films from Max Fleischer and MGM Short Subject favorite Pete Smith among many others.

Thanks for the invite. I appreciate it. I won't make it for dinner but might stop by to say "Hey!". Musso & Frank's is only two blocks from my home.

 

Another group of us (locals and early arrivals) are thinking of gathering Wednesday Night to nosh and watch the "O'Toole Interview" that evening. (You were to be included in that group.) We just haven't finalized the details. You "Facebookers" are so much more organized.

The 2012 Classic Film Festival will celebrate the 70th Anniversary of *Casablanca* with a screening of the newest restoration of the film that defines "classic". And unlike the TCM screenings across the country last week, Robert Osborne will be there in person. At least, I hope he does the *Casablanca* introduction.
