Countdown To Hollywood

Recommended Posts

Kyle,

I think the dinner is planned for after the showing of the Peter O'Toole interview. I'd like to do both, for sure!!!

Did you know the Mavs are in LA to drain the Lakers again on Sunday the 15th? it's going to be tough for me to stay away from Staples that night, but I'll manage.

Kyle, I have often heard folks say that " I can't tell you how much it means to me," but I am certainly going to try. Stylish, clearly written explanations with relevant comments accented with meaningful graphics, posters, and photos make learning about our annual film festival educational, entertaining, and personable.

Thank you for all the time and energy that you devote to this thread, Kyle. I appreciate it and enjoy it immensely!

Thank you 'SueSue'. You're very kind and generous with your words. I am pleased to know you are enjoying my efforts to visualize the Festival before it actually arrives.

But you are no slouch on the visual front with the wonderful work you do in your Travel Blog.

Looking forward to seeing you in a few --weeks-- Days!

Film Festival Weekend will be a frightening place with the Classic FIlm Festival presenting a five-film series saluting the Horror Legacy of Universal Pictures with screenings of such films as *Frankenstein*, *Dracula* and *The Wolf Man*. In attendance will be Make-Up artist Rick Baker, directors John Carpenter and John Landis, family members Bela Lugosi, Jr. and Sara Karloff along with cast member actress Carla Laemmle.

But I have to say, these fellows don't look scary to me.

Thanks so much for doing this.

As always, it's appreciated.

I'll try to make it to the L&H screening for you. Sadly, Dick Van Dyke is no longer able to do the introductions but it should still be a fun screening.

And *Duck Soup* goes a little too late into the night for me to attend. I've got to get to the screening of very rare color short films )A Trip To The Moon) early the next morning. (Mr. and Mrs. Cutter are taking in the Cinerama screening of *How The West Was Won* at the Cinerama Dome instead.)

One of these years, I hope to hear you are coming West for the FF yourself. Your friends out here would love to see you at the FF. We can promise you a good time.

MrMemorySteps

For all the amateur "Mr. Memory"s among the attendees, Club TCM will host a friendly movie trivia competition hosted by Bruce Goldstein, the Repertroy Programmer of New York's Film Forum. So what's the answer to the enigma "What is "The 39 Steps"?" Is it "An Alfred Hitchcock Film"? Or "An organization of international spies"? Or "A Maguffin"? Take your pick and let Mr. Goldstein sort it out.

*"Kyle, I love those links to "Information, Please"!* - SueSue

Cool! I am pleased someone is interested in them. Sharing the links to the radio shows were the main reason I chose to "promote" the Trivia Competition event during the Film Festival.

Definitely give a listen to the two episodes with Boris Karloff. You'll be amazed at the things he knows. What an educated man! And he pokes fun at himself and his role in "Arsenic And Old Lace" in which he was appearing on Broadway at that time.

Of the featured links, the Hitchcock episodes are the most "disappointing". He doesn't sound too interested in being there. None of his "humor" is on display. I guess he saved it all for the TV show that would come a decade later.

Definitely use this site to search out additional episodes.
