Japanese war film??

I was watching a Japanese film on TCM about a month ago and I cannot remember the name of it. It was a foreign language film and made in the 60's. It was in Japanese and there were no European actors in the film.

 

The film was subtitled.

 

I don't remember the whole plot, but it was a serious film, not a comedy. What I remember about the film was a blind man playing an instrument and chanting througout the film. The film was also about a civil war or at least a war between two Asiatic dynasties.

 

Remember the film was filmed in the 60's but the setting of the film is more ancient and traditional Japan.

 

Can anyone give me the name of this film I viewed on Turner Classic Movies network?
