Didn't Maureen move to Idaho (or something like that) within the last couple of years? That would make it much easier to get to LA than going from Ireland.

Yes, Maureen is now living in Idaho with her grandson and his family.

And Idaho is much closer than Ireland to Hollywood, thankfully!

Cinecrazy, I am so excited about Maureen coming to the festival! Yes, there was some sort of issue with her caregiver in Ireland and the foundation organized to raise funds for a museum, and she moved to the states to be closer to her family.

Here's a link to an article about the issues:

Hope you are doing well!

Shirley Temple Black, 1928-2014

Shirley Temple in *Captain January,* 1936

An excerpt from an article about Shirley Temple Black written by Norma Welty:

"Many girls, like myself, who grew up extremely poor in the Dust Bowl during the 1930s Great Depression revered Shirley Temple. We knew about her through listening to the girls from the more well-off families whose parents took them to see the young actress's movies. These more fortunate girls often brought pictures of Shirley Temple to school and talked profusely about her and her movies."

image_zps95b5a315.jpg

"Ms. Temple Black ran for Congress when the majority of voters weren't yet prepared to vote for a woman rather than a male opponent?and was defeated. But she hadn?t put all her eggs in one basket. Later, she was appointed to represent the United States in the United Nations, was the first woman appointed US Chief of Protocol and she later served as US Ambassador to Ghana and US Ambassador to Czechoslovakia. She did it all without fanfare, and to name but a few, she may have paved the way for Madeleine Albright, Condoleezza Rice and Hillary Rodham Clinton."

Just received this notice in my email:

TCM & BONHAMS PRESENT EXCLUSIVE APPRAISAL SESSIONS

Turner Classic Movies is thrilled to continue our exclusive partnership with the world renowned Bonhams auction house to present a movie memorabilia appraisal event at the 2014 TCM Classic Film Festival, 10am to 12pm, Sunday, April 13 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel.

Do you have classic movie items like posters, signed photographs, scripts, costumes, or props? Have you ever wondered the true value? This is your opportunity to find out!

The Festival is proud to again partner with Bonhams and their roster of experts in classic Hollywood memorabilia to provide attendees free appraisals of their classic movie items. Through these clinics Bonhams' experts have discovered many important items that have gone on to bring record prices at auction.

Appraisal slots, with a two item maximum, are limited. Please note: some appraisals may be photographed, videoed or otherwise documented for use by Turner Classic Movies and/or Bonhams.

Attendees interested in having their memorabilia appraised can get more details by visiting http://bonhams.com/tcm, by emailing appraisal.us@bonhams.com or by calling (415) 503-3287.

I'm watching *Don Juan* (1926) with John Barrymore right now. Mary Astor is lovely, and Barrymore is charming just about everyone appearing on the screen, but off screen, Barrymore's Svengali-like affair with Astor had fizzled, and he was involved during the filming of *Don Juan* with Dolores Costello. Even though Mary was heartbroken, she gives a fabulous performance in the film.

For Margarita Landazuri's lovely TCM Mary Astor Profile, follow the link. Trust me. It won't take long and soon you will know so much more about this wonderfully talented actress who deserves to be Star of the Month for March:

Here's a link to my latest article in *The Examiner* concerning the 'In Memoriam' video. Since the 86th Academy Awards was supposed to pay tribute to the 75th Anniversary of *The Wizard of Oz,* someone from the film was not seriously considered. And that's a shame...

Great news about Charlton Heston. And we now know when TOUCH OF EVIL will be shown.

TCM sent an email today saying that we should receive our Passes by Friday, March 14 unless we asked to have them held at Will Call.

In previous years TCM has announced the full schedule about three weeks before the festival, which means we should hear sometime next week.
