ERROL23
England,Shortly after WW2.Bill Saunders(Burt Lancaster)an ex GI and POW gets into a fight with a pub owner and accidently kills him. After a narrow escape with the police,Bill stumbles into an apartment owned by Jane Wharton(Joan Fontaine)a nurse at the local hospital. In spite of the situation,Jane and Bill fall in love. Bill takes Jane to the races and runs into Harry Carter(Robert Newton)a smoth talking drug dealer who was in the pub the night of the killing.Bill brushes him off and tells him hes wrong. Jane gets Bill a job driving a truck with drugs needed by the hospital.Again Harry runs into Bill and the gangster tells him he will forget the night in the pub if Bill will let his men hijack the truck. This is one underated Film Noir. Good scene when Bill takes Jane to the zoo and he sees the caged wild animals, which reminds him of the two years he spent in the German POW camp.
