LonesomePolecat
Peter Falk rocks! Aka Columbo, aka Grandpa in Princess Bride, though I like him best in MURDER BY DEATH as Sam Diamond and as Max in THE GREAT RACE. "Push the Button, Max!"
dpompper
IMHO, Peter Falk's best roles were "Tune in Tomorrow" (1990) and "A Woman Under the Influence" (1974).
Sepiatone
My first exposure to Falk was from his short-lived TV show, *The Trials of O'Brien* . Been a fan ever since. Sepiatone
TopBilled
> Peter Falk rocks! He was/remains a treasure. He's fun to watch in A POCKETFUL OF MIRACLES and COOKIE. But I think my favorite role of his is in THE IN-LAWS with Alan Arkin. Scores of great performances from him, in addition to Det. Columbo. He proved that you didn't have to look like Clark Gable or Tom Cruise to be a big star. He seriously deserves a primetime spotlight on TCM. TopBilled
_Update:_ I didn't realize I had another page of character actors and actresses. So instead of this thread ending in May, it will now end in June. After that, I think I will have exhausted most of the major performers in this category, unless there are some more obscure ones I inadvertently overlooked. So, again, this will now continue until the end of June. Thanks.

TopBilled
Thanks. I love how we refer to this actor as Muley, and not by his real name. That shows what a great performer he was at presenting memorable characters.
ValentineXavier
The reason I looked up the quote, was I remembered him saying 'and some of us died on it,' not 'were killed on it.' But, you were correct, that line is in there. I'm thinking that the ones "killed" were killed as a course of farm life, which can be dangerous. My dad grew up on a farm. He had a brother who died when he was kicked in the head by a horse. Accidents with machines were also common. Woody Guthrie wrote a ballad based on Steinbeck's book. Steinbeck was said to complain that Guthrie had said in a two-part ballad, what it took him a whole book to say. I'd say that both were great. TopBilled
It's powerful dialogue and Qualen recites it with conviction. It's one of the many highlights in the film.
