Jamie
I was just curious as to why, for the majority of the men in movies (and sometimes women) have named ending in "Y" (or "ie"). I heard that it had something to do with endearment but I'm still stumped. EX: For Me and My Gal characters were Harry, Jimmy, Danny. Little Nellie Kelly characters were Nellie Kelly, Jerry Kelly, etc. (Yes, I know it's Ireland, but still.) ~~~ Jamie
shainablue1
Adding a "y" at the end of a word is an endearment, why? I don't know. Starts with Baby, Mommy, Daddy, goes on from there. I never gave that much thought. Maybe when they want to make a character likable or fun it's a sub-concious thing to give them an endearing name. I can think of lots of non-y male names in movies. Rhett Butler, Heathcliff, Tom Powers, Steven Haynes, on & on..mostly respectable serious characters. Interesting.
