Blacklisting Alert!

For some fine tv viewing, and to add a face to your blacklisting knowledge, one cannot do wrong to fire up the old Philco on Thursday, March 31 at 7:45am to see "Three Daring Daughters" with Jeanette MacDonald in her near dotage!

Just kidding, she always looks fabulous and though a bit longer in the tooth, she is fun to watch as the mother of Jane Powell, Ann Todd and a young Elinor Dohahue [of "Father Knows Best" fame as Princess].

Also in the cast is Angela Lansbury's mom, Moyna MacGill [from whom you can see where she got her acting chops] and an amazing cast which includes classical musical luminary, Jose Iturbi, and great character actors like Edward Arnold, Harry Davenport, Tom Helmore [killer hubby from "Vertigo"], Leon Belasco, Thurston Hall and Ian Wolfe.

Blacklisting wise, this film has the famous harmonica victim, Larry Adler playing the part of...surprise, himself!

Due to the Army-McCarthy communist witch hunts even though never convicted, Larry Adler lost engagements in the US, and went into self-imposed exile in Britain. Many classical composers gave new berth to the harmonica as an instrument though due to his innovative playing, like Darius Milhaud and Ravel.

Amusing note about this very tame musical..."Three Daring Daughters" was found to be morally objectionable in the Film Index by the Catholic League of Decency, for showing a divorce to be acceptable and respectable.

Enjoy!
