bhryun
Personally I would love to see some more "pre code" films. I was blown away at how risque many of them were when TCM showcased them a good year+ ago. I would like to see some of Norma Shearer's earlier works, Marion Davies etc. So another "festival" of "pre codes" would interest me.
lzcutter
"Hollywood" An Appreciation of American Silent Film" and "The Men Who Made the Movies" Two great series about the folks in front of and behind tha camera that made the movies all possible. I think "Hollywood", especially, would give many TCM viewers a better appreciation of silent film. Plus, it is wonderful to hear the stories these people tell. Almost all of them have since died and Brownlow and company did a wonderful job of preserving their stories for future generations. Please. brackenhe
lzcutter--TCM used to have a regular "series" (I don't know what else to call it) on Friday evenings called "Hollywood on Hollywood" where they showed documentaries about films and actors. It came on at 7pm EST 6pm CST for many years. About 3 years ago they stopped this for some reason. I really enjoyed those docs even though many were shown repeatedly. However, with more docs being made and available I truly wish they'd bring this back. I looked forward to it every Friday (I have no life--so sue me )
lzcutter
bracken, I loved their "Hollywood on Hollywood" series and was bummed when they stopped running it. With all the material they have available from the Turner Archive Project I don't know why we don't see more mini docs on TCM. Perhaps it is $$ related but while I appreciate and love the work they have done on the Turner Archive Project it breaks my heart that we can't enjoy it more. So, I'll just keep suggesting "Hollywood: A Celebration of American Silent Film" and "The Men Who Made the Movies" until they rerun them, I guess. ultratwonky9000
Though, so far, I haven't posted any 2005 requests in this thread, I'd like to thank TCM for scheduling in May and June a few films I've been very keen on seeing for several years now: THE COLOSSUS OF RHODES (1961) May MR. ARKADIN (1955) May F IS FOR FAKE (1976) May NO BLADE OF GRASS (1970) June THE MYSTERIOUS ISLAND (1929) June And also a big thank you for recently adding THE DEVIL AND MISS JONES to your line-up. That was one I had been seeking for years! Great film! I wish TCM would draw more from Warner's Lorimar/Allied Artists holdings. We occasionally see THE HOUSE ON HAUNTED HILL ('58), FRIENDLY PERSUASION, LOVE IN THE AFTERNOON, PAPILLON and THE MAN WHO WOULD BE KING, and little else. How about these other AA films sometime: BILLY BUDD (1962) SOLDIER IN THE RAIN (1963) GOLD (1974) THE PHENIX CITY STORY (1955) HELL TO ETERNITY (1960) CONVICTS 4 (1962) LOOPHOLE (1954) THE CRUEL TOWER (1956) HELL'S FIVE HOURS (1958) JENNIFER (1953) THE BIG CIRCUS (1959) NOT OF THIS EARTH (1957) ATTACK OF THE CRAB MONSTERS (1957) MACABRE (1958) CALTIKI, THE IMMORTAL MONSTER (1959) THE GIANT BEHEMOTH (1959) QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE (1958) ATTACK OF THE 50 FOOT WOMAN (1958) THE CYCLOPS (1957) WORLD WITHOUT END (1956) SOULS FOR SALE (1962, aka CONFESSIONS OF AN OPIUM EATER) FACE OF FIRE (1959) THE MAZE (1953) FROM HELL IT CAME (1957) FRANKENSTEIN 1970 (1958) THE SORCERERS (1967) AL CAPONE (1959) THE INTERNECINE PROJECT (1974) THREE THE HARD WAY (1974) BLACK ZOO (1963) THE HYPNOTIC EYE (1960) THE STRANGLER (1964) --a few aired on AMC and the Encore channels about 5-6 years ago, several more used to run on TNT about 10-12 years ago, a few others aired on Cinemax and Showtime even farther back, and some haven't seen the light of day in decades (NOT OF THIS EARTH, for instance). Sure, a good number of these are drive-in schlock, but they're still fun (and often rare as hen's teeth these days), and TCM hasn't been shy about running films in a similar vein (WILD WILD PLANET, THE MANSTER, VOODOO ISLAND, to name a few). Not that TCM should over-run the schedule with this stuff, but I'd like to see these sprinkled in, now and then. Maybe a Saturday afternoon or Friday/Saturday late-night weekly slot (like the film noir "Darkness After Dawn" spot or "Silent Sunday Night") for sci-fi/horror/fantasy/drive-in/cult film fare, drawing from TCM's entire library of titles (not just Allied Artists films), including films licensed from other entities. Or a Halloween festival of Allied Artists' creature features. Beyond that, here's what I'd like to see in the near future on TCM: THE CLAY PIGEON (1949) RKO film in TCM's library DARK OF THE SUN (1968) MGM film in TCM's library THE GREEN SLIME (1969) ditto THE BEAT GENERATION (1959) ditto THE SPY IN BLACK (1939-British) also in TCM's library -30- (1959) Warner title, but not in TCM's library ROOM FOR ONE MORE (1952) ditto THE CRIMINAL CODE (1931) license from Columbia THE FACE BEHIND THE MASK (1941) ditto LADIES IN RETIREMENT (1941) ditto SCREAMING MIMI (1958) ditto CREATURE WITH THE ATOM BRAIN (1955) ditto CASH ON DEMAND (1961-British) ditto THESE ARE THE DAMNED (1962-British) ditto MURDER HE SAYS (1945) license from Universal REMEMBER THE NIGHT (1940) ditto MISSISSIPPI (1935) ditto AMONG THE LIVING (1941) ditto LET'S KILL UNCLE (1966) ditto PITFALL (1948) license from Republic Pictures TRY & GET ME (1950) ditto RIOT IN CELL BLOCK 11 (1954) ditto SHACK OUT ON 101 (1955) ditto SECRET BEYOND THE DOOR (1948) ditto HOUSE BY THE RIVER (1950) ditto MOONRISE (1948) ditto PLAY DIRTY (1968-British) license from Sony/MGM BILLION DOLLAR BRAIN (1967-British) ditto NORTH WEST FRONTIER (1959-British, aka FLAME OVER INDIA) ditto THE GIRL IN BLACK STALKINGS (1957) ditto MELODY (1971-British) ditto DANGER ROUTE (1968-British) ditto THE LAST HOLIDAY (1950-British) license from Janus Films/Criterion THE SMALL BACK ROOM (1949-British) ditto SANSHO THE BAILIFF (1954-Japanese) ditto SANDS OF THE KALAHARI (1965-British) owner unknown CUL-DE-SAC (1966-British) ditto RIDER ON THE RAIN (1969-French) ditto ONE OF OUR AIRCRAFT IS MISSING (1942-British) ditto GENEVIEVE (1953-British) ditto THE ISLAND (1960-Japanese) ditto So, who's with me? :7)
