gagman66
Yes, updated estimates of American Silents is 73% unaccounted for according to Kevin Brownlow. As for other countries it is probably around 85 to 90%. However, remember that every archive has hundreds, if not thousands of reels of film that have yet to be identified. At the same time, there are many films that have been identified that are still on Nitrate Film stock only and have not been transferred to any other medium so it is kind of scary. A sobering thought anyway you look at it.

gagman66
New discoveries keep turning up all the time. The problem is finding funding and or grants to get the films restored. Some recent restorations include Constance Talmadge *EAST IS WEST (1922),* and Herbert Brenon's THE *SPANISH DANCER (1923)* with Pola Negri and Antonio Moreno. Both restored by the Netherlands Eye Institute of film. As well as *ROMONA (1928)* with Dolores Del Rio and Warner Baxter by the Library of Congress. Several Hichcock Silents by the BFI (British Film Institute).
