Terrence1
This goes out to all you wonderful movie experts. I've heard that Ronald Reagan and Ann Sheridan were originally scheduled to star in "Casablanca." This staggers the imagination? Any truth to this? Terrence. LsDoorMat
I'm no movie expert but I know where to dig. From the Wikipedia: "Several rumors and misconceptions have grown up around the film, one being that Ronald Reagan was originally chosen to play Rick. This originates in a press release issued by the studio early on in the film's development, but by that time the studio already knew that he was due to go work for the army, and he was never seriously considered. George Raft claimed that he had turned down the lead role. Studio records make clear, however, that Wallis was committed to Bogart from the start "Other actresses considered for the role of Ilsa included Ann Sheridan, Hedy Lamarr, and Michele Morgan. Wallis obtained the services of Bergman, who was contracted to David O. Selznick, by lending Olivia de Havilland in exchange." So apparently Bogart was always going to be Rick, but there were numerous actresses considered for Ilsa. Ann Sheridan was under contract to WB, so she might have been in the lead because of that. FredCDobbs
Ilsa: I wasn't sure you were the same. Let's see, the last time we met... Rick: Was La Belle Aurore. Ilsa: How nice, you remembered. But of course, that was the day the Germans marched into Paris. Rick: Not an easy day to forget. Ilsa: No. Rick: I remember every detail. The Germans wore gray, you wore blue.

FredCDobbs
Ilsa: But what about us? Rick: We'll always have Paris. We didn't have, we, we lost it until you came to Casablanca. We got it back last night. Ilsa: When I said I would never leave you. Rick: And you never will. But I've got a job to do, too. Where I'm going, you can't follow. What I've got to do, you can't be any part of. Ilsa, I'm no good at being noble, but it doesn't take much to see that the problems of three little people don't amount to a hill of beans in this crazy world. Someday you'll understand that. dpompper
Nope, zip chemistry. It'd have been a film with great direction, screenplay, and a bounty of character actors. Not quite the same.
