johnbabe
a week or so ago, TCM showed The MErry Widow with John Gilbert and Renee Adoree and it was directed by Erik Von Stroheim - Ben M. made an error when he stated that MGM fired EVS and he never worked at MGM again. that may be true of his work as a director, but Erik appeared in the Garbo early talkie of As You Desire Me in 1932 way after the MW........please be accurate Ben. Thank you.
joyrider
What happened was Garbo was fed up with MGM & said she would not make a movie unless Stroheim was in it. She was rubbing their noses in it. MGM relented & it is rumored Stroheim drank a quart of booze a day during the picture.
