short film last week - soldier's travels in WW2 Pacific

Last week I came across a short documentary film airing on TCM, told in a first person narrative, about a soldier's (sailor's?) travels across the Pacific in WW2 to Indochina, where he was assigned to a unit that was helping to support the Chinese. There he was eventually put in charge of plexiglass (?) repair. Anyway, I only caught a few minutes and now am curious about the film, but TCM's schedule only goes back a day or two so I can't find out what it was. Anybody happen to know?

Was it on overnight Friday night, Sept. 29?

If so, the film you're asking about could be THE SID SAGA, PART 1 (1985).

It was a documentary produced by Sid Laverents telling his life story in three parts.

TCM showed all three parts and the part that covered Sid's war experiences was Part 2.
