Janet0312
Universal 1941. Any comments?
markbeckuaf
I totally dig it! My main man Lionel Atwill, and of course Bela Lugosi his own bad self (though he's largely wasted in the plot, still his very presence resonates!!). I totally dig these "lesser" Universal gems, and am a sucka for 30's/40's mystery flix!!
princessananka
Janet, I've mentioned the great NIGHT MONSTER several times in my threads for "Great Horror Performancces" and also "Scariest Movie Houses." The ensemble cast of Hollywood's greatest character performers and the wonderful sets, music, photography makes this l941 classic one of my all time favorites. Fay Helm as the doomed Margaret Ingstom and Doris Lloyd as the sinister housekeeper both stand out with Irene Hervey giving a warm performance as the doctor. Even Alfred Hitchcock was impressed since he wanted to borrow Janet Shaw (the maid) for one of his movies and watched NIGHT MONSTER. He thought the movie was beautifully photographed, especially the shadowy library sequences, and the fact the movie was shot in just l4 days wowed him. Janet0312
Wow. I didn't know that about this film. It certainly contains all of the usual Universal atmospheric elements. But to be honest, I love it mostly for the dialogue.
