Eastwood? Wayne? Other? Who's your fave cowboy?

Recommended Posts

Mine is hard to decide, since I was raised on both Eastwood and Wayne, so I like them both. I also like James Stewart, some James Garner, and Yul Brynner had a good one with "Magnificent Seven." Robert Young and Robert Taylor did too. This is my opinion only...what about you?

Joel McCrea is my all-time favorite. I especially love him in "Stars In My Crown" and "Ride the High Country."

That end scene with him and Randolph Scott is top-notch. It's Peckinpah's best film as well.

I love John Wayne, but I'm thinking James Garner is my favorite. I think it's his air of comedy that he brings to his roles.

But for brooding strength, I'm stuck on Gregory Peck in Yellow Sky. He was FABULOUS as the lead outlaw who butts heads with Richard Widmark and (literally) with Anne Baxter.

Y'all have mentioned some fantastic cowboys! If I must pick one all-around favorite, it would probably have to be Eastwood.

BUT, get ready to giggle, I had to get Tim Holt's name in this discussion. He's my 'white horse' cowboy, my hero. Noble and upright, he always knows the right thing, and always does it. (according to script, I know, but he was so believable)

If any one giggled they would have to do it when I mentioned Holt also. His dad Jack Holt and sister Jennifer could handle a six shooter and ride a horse with the best of the Saturday Matinee cowpolks!

Yay, Ken! I still don't see your post about Holt and I'd like to read it, is it on that on another thread?

I've never seen Jack or Jennifer Holt act, but I'm looking forward to it. Thanks to a cool website, I just recently learned that Tim's father & sister were also actors. Holt's page: http://www.surfnetinc.com/chuck/holt.htm'>http://www.surfnetinc.com/chuck/holt.htm'>http://www.surfnetinc.com/chuck/holt.htm'>http://www.surfnetinc.com/chuck/holt.htm

The website is The Old Corral -- "Remembering the B-Western Movie, Heroes, Heroines, Sidekicks, Heavies & Henchmen". I really enjoyed my visit, maybe y'all will, too. http://www.surfnetinc.com/chuck/
