Guest finnie12, moira
From Walter Winchell's tag line, to "The Big Broadcast of 1932" to Woody Allen's "Radio Days" (1987), stories centering around the hectic atmosphere of radio have often been a part of movies. The Jack Carson/Doris Day movie "My Dream is Yours",(1949) shown on TCM this morning, reminds us of the role that radio often played in movies of the '30s,'40s, and beyond. Would you like to discuss any movies that incorporate this medium into their storyline in an interesting way?
Guest mongo
A movie that comes to mind is the classic "A Letter to Three Wives" (1949)since Ann Sothern's character writes lines for a popular radio soap opera. Her hoity-toity boss the witty Florence Bates lives and breathes the events of the radio program which all comes to a head at a dinner gathering. In tow that evening are Linda Darnell, Paul Douglas, Miss Southern, Kirk Douglas and the hilarious Thelma Ritter.
Guest Alix
One that kind of popped into my mind is THE NEXT VOICE YOU HEAR, and it's a late 40's or early 50's movie about God's voice appearing over the radio. It really changes the lives of the people in that town!
