MilesArcher
Lavender got donald Haines. Yes, he was in "Skippy" with Jackie Cooper, his buddy from the Our Gang films. He was killed in action in World War II in North Africa at age 23. Now, here is a pretty girl who started out as a child actress, but she also had an adult career for a while, including a movie with John Wayne. Do you know her? twinkeee
Mary Kornman.....was one of OUR GANG. Years later she starred in some shorts including Fish Hooky (1933) where she played the part of a school teacher. Twink
MilesArcher
Yes, Twinks, you got her. Mary Kornman was in "The Desert Trail" with John Wayne in 1935. Before that, she was in a musical called "College Humor" with Bing Crosby. In this clip, she is matched up with a somewhat over-age college boy played by Jack Oakie. If you look closely, I think you'll see starlet Toby Wing with a few lines as she puts on her stockings. So, do you think college life has changed much in eighty years? Now, who is this young guy? He turned out to be quite a handsome fellow, didn't he?

MilesArcher
Yes, You can't think of Mary Kornman without thinking of Mickey Daniels. In 1922, when Hal Roach started the "Our Gang" series, he did not want professional child actors, but instead, he wanted amateurs whose acting would be more natural. Mary Kornman's father worked for Roach, and Mickey Daniels was a kid who lived in their neighborhood. Now, here is a young girl whose career started in the 1940's. She was in some movies with some major stars. She did a few TV shows and movies in the fifties, but she never had a real adult career. Do you know her? twinkeee
CONNIE MARSHALL...... starred in 'Mr. Blanding Builds His Dream House' (1948), also starred in a short lived TV series 'Doc Corkle' (1952) Twinks
MilesArcher
That's correct, Twinks. Little Connie was also in "Dragonwyck" and "Wake Up And Dream", among others. At one time she was known as "The Queen Of The Pigtails". Now, here is an actress who started in movies as a teen in supporting roles. She eventually became a leading lady. Do you know her? MilesArcher
Yes, Dothery, it's Mona Freeman. There is a common thread that ties together some of my recent posts on this thread as well as the "Do You Know That Song" thread. It involves Mona Freeman, Connie Marshall, and a song that I mentioned. Do you know what that common thread is? Now, here is someone who has nothing to do with those folks. Do you recognize her? !data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQAAAQABAAD/2wCEAAkGBwgHBgkIBwgKCgkLDRYPDQwMDRsUFRAWIB0iIiAdHx8kKDQsJCYxJx8fLT0tMTU3Ojo6Iys/RD84QzQ5OjcBCgoKDQwNGg8PGjclHyU3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3Nzc3N//AABEIAGMAkAMBIgACEQEDEQH/xAAbAAABBQEBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEAAIDBQYHAf/EADgQAAEDAwIDBwIEBQQDAAAAAAECAxEABCESMQVBUQYTIjJhcYEUsZGhwfAVI0Lh8QdSYtEkM8L/xAAZAQACAwEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACBAABAwX/xAAiEQACAgICAwADAQAAAAAAAAAAAQIRAzESIQQyQSJRYRP/2gAMAwEAAhEDEQA/AOSz4ikTq9KKJXo1gjGPSmLZDZJSSM5B3oju0qbGkyedZNi7dESELUjvTEGRScR4Av0x6U9Ig5ykcqa8kYKJ2gzVWS7GHQ6kZPU01DndKUkzHWiGyAkrCBkCR1qy4RbtuuPXb7QdbaGruh/WrYD2n7VLLSvorRbqudIa8u8xgUfY2Lr1w20pQAICNZnST7xVk1aMv2tqtF0kOLlSgFY04Ij4miOILSLN21Di13LYCmCrPiByJ6Eb0PL4NR8e0VHFeFKsHFa3G1EjzIWCKr0kqSdWCMEGri8ftQtSHrdbqoTLC9h4fFH51VPXH1FxCyTryjWMj0nn/arXaAyYeK6InEFIwqk24skgjFPdBiQoFIzFJJJAUAAYwB0qCzPQhS4AV5jEUxSSknSqVAxUhStCkKWMb4pHQtalbE8qsvke2ty6wpK2lQRuDzq3s79m5cKH9LaR5GqVSR1yedTW1jdOwtLSliIECIqUFGTWi2XZhLiipWNxFDPNF1J1asbetFcPtb1vW86kIkSFZIqyTb2qQEkFeJjlVUxhSvZlHNdywHHkgFtAKnFCM/7f7UIghafAMgYzV9YMKLRFxqGpRUvSTA6D9tUV3rb4jcttphIcOIiqi7dCrQ5oKSSlYE/epEhottqBO5CgaDBXOSY5epqZCipQIOoTmiaB0SjbzCBy6Udwh5DHeFxwpAwkT5hzquWCjUAQr25VI2XC4l5sStohWk7GP8AFC0a4XxmrOw9nx/Cv4XbtXTKlOBKC4NUTA8u2BPTeKuh2c4ZZB7TaocSsylLiAru8AQCeVUKe0RauWLdh1SnnNKghDQUADtqUTuYOB0aueKv8AEHrZlFoS046lSjBjaNzGBmdpaFR/Z17Xwy/anhduq3fdDSGlR5kjTq5QSN65CAtN6EkDvAsSIxXWX2OJ37S03NobdKPM4XlHX7g8/aRFYFyztXH7p5SoUkHQoHykCdvUiPxo4/iYZ1zjaBUr8MqQI2MimhhJJUlUT/TNKVgSkhSeWKmsGHLtFAp05UelQ5atuh7FlcuoMKBG/xVg3wRpWlbi1kjkMUU2tIWQE6QDA9qc5deMFU6NvWKNRNFFI8Rb2zQBQwBHNWTNL6x0DSVDSBgJxQj1wSTExyqAuGiUQrCu/JX5qQfdnJ54oSYAI605ToGCc0VEsGN05cSyyVKS4UgKJ8pBmfvQd7ZqZcSpaj3hg42Ioxy/Q0oBhtLKBOkBE5/Dnj8KF4hdOXC0F1Pd6UiMeb11LRuzOSSB3NYTkgjIprbqkKyncZimpXqBSFDfmK8TISZyQdutaFBDa0yDBzk1Y8PQFvGEkrKDpHWq3ui6loNfzVCUDJM8h1O1dH7Kdg0qbL3FHNTkiGELhIPqRkn2x70MukbYsUpO0tGp7KPWV3wq0cdZQVtthIJGccjRN/ev/wARtO5tHiWnVd6s6QjQVAdemfj1yA6LThjyA0gMtjwqAEAHrXj/AA/iN84pxviFyWidSUJdShAAmTPzWSlZ11FbHdrOIn6dbTYgEbiuUISFtuNOONoStUeJJneTEfveth2u4zb8PZlCi7ckRAMn3NY60SSmXBJnPud6NddgZUpLiTI4Q662foH2n0pPi/oVPsrBDR1rbfRNKbWDqXGuRtXROz3Cbf8AgFhqZSHFNBclOZVn/qhuPcMYeKW1JlwQoqHIcs1cZqxZeEn67MC5lRqFwk45TRt9amzuFMunVzCuooVaMGNqYTsUcXF0yDuySOleaU4BqQ6sQKaEnc1YBEpGcU1SZ3qRShNRqNQgMHg0uFNLDn1WD6nPsajvQbmXllSnAAABtFdGWluSl5KFp/5pBAoc8J4a6opcs20naWyUn3xSv8AQnjOZqQnVqCwD6inBJCSd4PKt072L4fcDWxc3LJOwVpWP09COdgII1fR3lq/qBEOamyBBFHaA4NEHYCwTeceYd8wtmy8sdFEwn9T8V09a1W900sKOkrEkYg8jWT/04LecHfvzxBtKFu92GyFhQITqmI9VVprtYLwRvJBHxQyO14WOsPf0O7R3DLfBn7l1ht1TbSiFqSDsDuDvXHn1PFfpWE2d0u3U6Vd602PC2BgaZ6ycDpXRO3d2mz4M7bFfiWjSRHWuWttW7SFDSolXMny0OOq7Ad6R6izupXcvNvPFzxFCqfmtV2S7PO8RdD14hTVmgyoqEFz0H6mtbb21raWLTLSAEpSPD/Wp1XnfYAihcrDjjotvqArWyAltIifQdKqe97551ZMpJ3PQYry4uSmzd0YOg/ag7O6S4IBAAmf0q8f0awQ2zPdp4F3jGgj7f3qmUYIkY6VbdqFhd6wEkAlREn2rPuOOJVpWnNMw0crzoNZLCNaY6VCtfIUOpZpgdxRiJKoiaYqcRXgVO1ezjMVZDcFw6gBIHXaaSCQZBIG2M1EpXVM55/v86c1JKuQOMk/alRgPa2JnZXL2o1Dkz4sTPhOQKrWl6BBAIiJotC4gBSjOJmqJRKXiLlJ555R0oxhPe3KVEZECoOHpaVcOqfgtoTKioSBvNFMK7tK3I06jgdKCTOnhnWFRMP/qBdpVduMp0wQknP/IH/AORWf4LaHiPFWbdaFhCyVHQJJAE8qZ2rulO8bukpPhACfen9h78Ncbb1AKIbWIOYxuB1/wCzW0IrTInGUlFbN9eLKPFkR1pW9wVpkEfBqb61twENq0zkhCiCfgZ9QG5QgHS0lQjcJBI/X8qNK/jNDQy6cedQWGgmVCJOwHMnoB1qLh3haU6lWoKkoPKOR/CKGve8vUdz9QQ2oJAhOr0MRPtVw1w136dKVONtp0gYJJrKWP8Az2awkoLsw/alZUUuFenSsJQd/F/ifyqrZuw8NLmHANz9qs3aGmXrZhqYBJzz/f6CswVEERiK0joSy1O0WpM8qRKemaHYf70EK3G56tPIUN61Ts5E4cXTHe1eGY81Nz0qC4WU1YNG1U/JjVKhn2qRD06cyCZBJ2mq9MnMhnlUrEhUSD0z8ClRmi5bcBAJjaeWf3NFJdIIkbjaMYqpacjEE4kgbbdZopDiVEk5ScztFUXRaW6ySpCVeAkEz9vb1FXD2lhathG9VNncJUpSQRKTBApvHbpTVkUICi4rZCdyfQVltnQjGoI5xfOh/iF07AEq33kVXuKXa3Sbm1VoeGRAx64o/tFWL5Q6Rq0hSoM5Oaq3FFxRJB0ppaEJJqZbp43xS9CkBlpakpKvKeXzXWUdm7S04OwtwrC0htx9TjhVAIlwDl5R4YiCc1yjs62lbzhX5dEH5rp9r2ltri0RaqWLqEpUTblaZGJMEwD6QTp5TRRZ0MkMrxqSbZIzwSzb4f8AUusqLqEulK97wKKXEaFSfSIgbE7SKndeAbn71V8O4nxB3hJZurBTd46lLbz6loIUgAQYTzhMQes9RTuIPBtg5jHOscsk2qBxKVNyOf9r7sXHGdI2bTHzVIqpuIOd7f3DkydUVCBO1GtArscy5ocSo7TB9qsVqk0Ehk6lIUN0yKe25/LGrcYNaRYt5OOqYUFDNQXORMVA5c58NQl5R3NEJm7jxD3pARpjqa9pUqND9RTsY8IollRjVOSoj8qVKhZAvg7ilLeQqCkKxIBojjH8quUNgJSkpAAHKBXtKs3s6UNIonHWl4sC5ZC4wMkdOlSI7OcIE/wDgoPupR5pUq0ijOaXMJteFWFvq7m0aR7CrRptCEBIHsKVKgkNr1In1FKTBiqe/WotmVHnSpVIbMp6OdAzKjuSST1orhgmZByCsTSpU0Y49oJvAElwDASrHpQDnmX70qVVDYPnepAaaa9pVqck//9k=! MilesArcher
Eee-gads! Edythe, you got her. The pictures of Susan Luckey in the gray dress are from "Carousel" where she played the daughter of Shirley Jones. It was just shown on TCM a few days ago. That common thread that I referred to earlier is the movie "Mother Wore Tights" with Betty Grable playing the mother of Mona Freeman and Connie Marshall. The Tra La La song was performed, at least in part, in the film. If you really want to stretch things, Betty Furness, whose pictures I posted in the Discussions forum, was the maid of honor at the wedding of Betty Grable and Harry James. Just a little free and useless trivia for you . Now, who is this young fellow and where do we know him from?
Dothery
That young fellow is Ted Donaldson, who had a dancing caterpillar named (I think) Curly, who would dance only to "Yes Sir, That's My Baby." Cary Grant was his partner in the movie, and the name of it was "Once Upon a Time."
musicalnovelty
Ted Donaldson should also be familiar to TCM viewers as the human star of the "Rusty" (the dog) series of movies from the late 1940's that have been shown on TCM several times. He's also in the popular 1945 movie A TREE GROWS IN BROOKLYN.
MilesArcher
Good job, Dothery, and thanks to Musicalnovelty for his contribution. Yes, Ted Donaldson was a very popular child actor in the forties. Now, do you know this dark-haired beauty? She had a rather short career.
Dothery
Yes. That's Lupe Velez, poor girl. A terribly sad case ... she was the Mexican Spitfire and had a pretty good career going. Cut a wide swath among men in the community. Then she got pregnant by a guy named Harald Ramon. Apparently he wouldn't marry her. She left a note saying he didn't want her or her baby, and killed herself with sleeping pills.
MilesArcher
Yes, that's Lupe. She was once the wife of Johnny Weissmuller. Here she is with Stan and Ollie in a funny bit from "Hollywood Party". Now, who is this pretty actress? She was also a singer who appeared in several musicals and westerns.
Dothery
That's Jane Frazee. She had a very long career, starting out at the age of six, billed with her sister as The Frazee Sisters.
MilesArcher
Yuo got her, Dothery. The picture on the right is from "Buck Privates". She was in some westerns with Roy Rogers, filling in when Dale Evans had maternity leave. Now do you know this young fellow? He started very young and was active from the late thirties to the late forties.

MilesArcher
Twinks, you got him, but you didn't say what series. For anyone who doesn't know, it was the "Blondie" series. His character was known as Baby Dumpling when he was quite small, but as he got older, he was called Alexander. The dog's name was Daisy, I believe. Larry Simms was also in "Mr. Smith Goes To Washington" and "It's A Wonderful Life". Now, who is this young fellow?
