casablancalover2
I have in my queue: *Desk Set* *The Apartment* two movies that have Christmas festivities in the story, but it is more incidental to the atmosphere. What are some of your favorite not necessarily Christmas movies? Edited by: casablancalover2 on Nov 13, 2012 11:39 PM
hamradio
"Die Hard" (1988) I wouldn't exactly call this a Christmas movie either. Thinking what the producers childhood must have been like. ValentineXavier
The 1944 film noir *Christmas Holiday*, with Gene Kelly and Deanna Durbin, directed by Robert Siodmak. Not really a Christmas film at all. Very dark. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0036711/
aimalac91748
"The Lemon Drop Kid" isn't really a Christmas movie, but it does make good use of the seasons sentamentality.
sfpcc1
Gremlins takes place during the holidays but isn't exactly a Christmas movie.
casablancalover2
These are all good and in the spirit of what I was thinking. All these are great, *Stalag 17* was under the radar, I had forgotten that part of the story. The Deanna Durbin, Gene Kelly drama, *Christmas Holiday*, is nor a Christmas story, so I wondered how the audience felt about that once they saw it? Then there is *Bachelor Mother.* And *Sleepless in Seattle*, which features a lonely Christmas. dpompper
"Poseidon Adventure" (1972). Sure, it's New Year's Eve (close enough?), but there's an instrumental Christmas tree involved.
slaytonf
Sleepless in Seattle makes me think of You've Got Mail, which makes me think of Shop Around the Corner. I think that takes place around Christmas. There is also Larceny, Inc.

DownGoesFrazier
Most obviously, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE is the quintessential Christmas film, but only touched Christmas at the very end. Edited by: finance on Nov 14, 2012 9:24 AM
Sepiatone
DAMN YOU, finance! Beat me to it! I'll add the funny *Trapped In Paradise* , which takes place at Christmas, but not a Christmas movie per se. Sepiatone

misswonderly3
I love *Moonstruck* ! Now there's a romantic movie that works ! (Unlike a certain other romantic film that I've posted about recently.) Hey, for action fans, how about *Die Hard*? It's set at Christmas time, there's even a tree, I believe. Dargo2
In Battleground, the G.I.s are stuck behind enemy lines during the Battle of the Bulge and on Christmas day. (...now, top THAT one...I mean, isn't a movie about humans killing each other in mass just about the MOST removed you can get from the teachings of the guy who's birthday is celebrated on Dec.25th???)
