Filmgoddess
The composer, whose 25 year collaboration with Merchant Ivory netted him 2 Oscar noms for the scores to Howards End and The Remains of the Day, has died at the age of 71 his longtime partner announced. From 1979 to 2005, he composed the scores to all of their films. It's hard to imagine Merchant Ivory without his great scores. He will be missed. RIP. willbefree25
Was he related to Jerome Robbins? There was a very good show on Jerome recently, and I never realized what an &&!@#@* Ed Sullivan was.
Filmgoddess
No, they were not related. And Ed Sullivan had nothing on Jerome Robbins who was universally despised by anyone who ever worked with him or had a casual encounter with him. A deeply unhappy man who took it out on the world (but supremely talented!).
Swithin
So sorry to hear about Richard Robbins' passing. I particularly like his score for Maurice. Here is the main theme, it begins over the opening credits: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iD5TBJHJxC0
willbefree25
Oh. Okay. I didn't know that. So did they pay everyone in the documentary to praise him to the hilt? Anyway, according to this film, Ed threatened to 'out' him.
