TEARS IN MY EYES

For me, the best thing about Charles Boyer is that he inspired my favorite cartoon character Pepe Lepew. Actually, I have broken the ice over the years with many women by doing my "Pepe" routine in romantic situations. "Oh my little desert flower. Comec with me to the Casbah and we will make beautiful music together, Cherie." They always get a kick out of it.

slappy: as long as they don't say that you smell like Pepe as well.

Movies that make me lachrymose(okay, i'm on a vocabulary building kick):

Casablanca: when they sing La Marseillaise

For Whom the Bell Tolls: at the end when Maria has to leave Roberto

The Kid: when they take Jackie Coogan away

How Green Was My Valley: just about all through it, but especially when Huw walks again

Old Yeller: you know when

All Quiet on the Western Front: when Lew Ayres reaches for the butterfly

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir: when Gene Tierney arises from the chair as a young woman and looks back at herself as an old woman...okay, i'm a sap, i admit it.

I know these are current movies but I really enjoyed Whale Rider and The Notebook. I cried watching both in several different areas. As far as classics

Gallipoli puts tears in my eyes but also makes me angry at all the deaths.

On Borrowed Time- I just love Lionel Barrymore. I wish he was my grandpa.

Bambi- I know it's a cartoon but I just adore it.

Day of the Dolphin- Any movie with cruelty towards animals gets my tear ducts flowing every time.

Goodbye Mr. Chips - whole box of tissues for this one.

There are so many great tearjerkers. As far as actors that make me cry Hmm... I think I'll say Jimmy Stewart ..lol.. he is my general answer for everything.

PS

I had my hubby read your post Slappy..hehehe I think he needs some practice but I can see why the ladies would fall for that one. Meow

I just want to mention because I just thought of it- Hattie McDaniel in Gone With the Wind. Ascending the stairs with Melanie repoting the horrific things Rhett and Scarlett were saying to each other- sobbing the whole way and Mellie asking her to stop she couldn't hear it anymore- and her continuing telling how Rhett said "You think I's gonna bury that child in the ground when she's so afraid of the dark?" ( or something like that)and " He says you take that child in the morning, I'll kill ya in the morning" (once again- close but no cigar, I know). Yikes- I'm choking up just half remembering it. That is one sad scene.

OMG shainabluegirl--I think that's one of the best scenes of the GWTW and what won the Oscar for Ms. McDaniel. The last couple of times I've watched it, I tried to pay particular attention to her performance. She was just wonderful in a now controversial role.
