LonesomePolecat
Just wondering what everyone's Oscar predictions are, now before the Golden Globe nominations are even out, so it's not so obvious. Who will win Picture? Actor? Actress? Director? etc? What do you guys think?
brackenhe
I never go to the movies these days but I do read Entertainment Weekly so I have some idea what is getting buzz. I think it's safe to say that Lincoln will get noms for Daniel Day Lewis, Tommy Lee Jones and possibly Sally Field. I'm also seeing a lot about John Hawkes & Helen Hunt. I'm hoping that Ben Affleck will get a nod for Argo, and it would be thrilled if John Goodman got one for either that or Flight.
joefilmone
"Lincoln" will get nominations for director and leading actor- Sally Fields might get a supporting acting nomination and so will Tommy Lee Jones- but what about Joseph Gordon Levitt- who was the best thing about "The Dark Knight Rises"? LonesomePolecat
I hope Les Miz gets some nods-- not that I've seen it, but from what I hear it's pretty good.
joefilmone
The trailer for "Les Miserables" looks very promising- it's the sort of period musical Oscar usually loves.
Sepiatone
It's hard to play this game. So much can happen between now and then. When the movie *Copland* came out, there was a LOT of Oscar "buzz" about Stallone getting a nod for nomination. And actually, it WAS an exceptionally fine performance from him. But come nomination time, his name was FAR from being on the list. Sepiatone
LonesomePolecat
That's why I think it's interesting to start now-- now before anything is official. Then we can really have fun later and say "wow you were right" or "oh yeah, why was that film ignored?" etc
skimpole
I am very pleased that Rachel Weisz won the best actress award from the New York Critics film circle for The Deep Blue Sea. So here's hoping.
