Commercials on TCM, Dec. 4?

Is it only my cable company (Verizon Fios in Massachusetts) that's doing it, or is anyone else seeing commercials on TCM this morning, Tuesday, Dec. 4?

So far, I've seen:

At 6:08 A.M. during ASSIGNMENT IN BRITTANY - two commercials.

At 6:38 A.M. during BACK PAY - four commercials.

At 7:05 A.M. during BACK PAY - one commercial.

At 7:14 A.M. during BACK PAY - two commercials.

And we're missing the movies while these unwanted and unwelcome interruptions are shown - that is, the movie isn't being stopped until the commercial is over, then continued.

Sounds as if someone is messing up on the job there. I've had BACK PAY on since it started and here on my NYC Time Warner cable, there haven't been any commercials. The movie ran straight through and just ended 56 minutes after it started, just as it should according to the listed running time.

They just ran three more commercials at 8:04 A.M. during SUNNY.

And two more at 8:37 A.M. during SUNNY (which were actually the same thing run twice).

And two more at 9:07 A.M. during WAY BACK HOME.

But yeah, they look like the kind the cable company is dropping in, and not TCM's fault.

But they're completely ruining the movies, for anyone who may be recording them.

I have to wonder how long will this be going on?

I have to turn it off for a while now, but I hope not to see these annoying interruptions when I turn TCM back on later.

musicalnovelty, I just zipped through my recordings of Assignment and Back Pay but there are no commercials. Thank God! I'm on Shaw Direct in Canada.

If that outrage continues for you, perhaps you have another service provider that you can turn to (money permitting, of course), assuming that they aren't doing the same thing. Good luck.

musicalnovelty, I couldn't stomach the other films, sorry, but I sat through Herbert Marshall and Jean Arthur in something about a cook (I thought for sure it would be good, it wasn't) and there were no commercials. I have the overpriced FIOS in Westchester New Yawk.

Here we only have Cablevision, a similar crook, to turn to, so I can't say that musicalnovelty has much choice. Unless she does as some here have done, and give up cable altogether.

Thanks for everyone's comments. It does appear that this is a local cable company thing and certainly not TCM's fault. So, I'll have to see if it continues and if so, contact the cable company.

Hey, what has evidently made you think I'm a "she"? I know it can be impossible to tell sometimes just by usernames or what people say. But no, I'm not a she.

Years ago I used a cable company that would insert local commercials into movies and other cable programs.

Apparently they had complicated schedules and automatic switching, and they were able to avoid certain national commercials and insert local ones much like what a local TV station would air.

It sounds like someone pressed the wrong computer buttons and had the commercials you saw inserted into the wrong channel by mistake. The correct channel either ran the wrong commrcials or ran a black screen while you were watching the commercials. :)

One time a local radio station somewhere in the US, back in the 1990s, put on the wrong public service announcement and announced that the US had just been attacked by atomic missiles but our forces were fighting back and we were winning the war. This was in the news for weeks.

And of course there are the occasional cases of some engineer, late at night at a cable company, running a porno film for his own viewing, and pressing the wrong button and sending it out on one of the regular TV channels. In one case, more than an hour went by before anyone called in to complain. LOL.

I almost forgot, Mr. musicalnovelty!

I have had NO luck whatsoever in contacting Verizon via email or on their forum, and have taken to contacting them............wait for it............via Twitter!

Can you believe it? Me tweeting on Twitter to Verizon Support. Make sure you contact them on VERIZON SUPPORT.

Yes, truly, they personally answer you, I kid you not. And if they personally answer me, who has annoyed them most sincerely via email and on their forum, they will most assuredly personally answer you.

Here is the url for the (don't you hate that phrase?) hashtag for Verizon Support:

I live in Massachusetts and have Charter cable. No commercials on TCM via Charter, but they do have the most annoying habit of running emergency broadcast announcements across the screen at any given moment. These begin with a piercing buzzing sound at full volume.

Thanks again for all the comments. It seems to have been only a morning thing.

But I'll be watching to see how it goes next few days and be sure to contact the cable folks if I have to.
