Black preacher moves family west

Recommended Posts

This was very likely a tv-movie from the early '70's and I remember very little of it. A poor Southern black family moves to a new community, possibly to a big city or a west coast town. I think it was a modern-day setting (late sixties-early seventies) because I remember a station wagon. The only detail I remember was the youngest son always needed his siblings to get him down from the top bunk bed where he slept. At the end of the movie, he wakes up on Christmas morning and, much to his delight, there is a ladder mounted to the bunk beds and he happily gets down by himself. Not much to go on. Any ideas?
