memphisgurl
trying to recall the name of a 1950s or 60s film, possibly Italian or French: A woman is in love/possibly married to a famous playwright/director, and goes to visit him on location - he's directing a big play in an incredibly old amphitheatre. they quarrel off and on, and finally, one of them commits suicide by falling to their death at the amphitheatre or the villa. driving me crazy trying to remember! thanks! lavenderblue19
The film is *A Very Private Affair* (French title is *La Vie Privee* ) it's a Brigitte Bardot film. The first time I watched this film was about 30 years ago and I never forgot it. Hope that helps. I didn't check the database to see if it's scheduled in the next 3 months, you may want to check that out.
memphisgurl
thanks so much!!! I knew I didn't dream up the plot, but could not recall to save my life! Should've remembered all the paparazzi yelling, "Jill! Jill!" and known it was Bardot. I kept thinking Seberg, but knew that was wrong. what a great film - saw it a few years ago when I totally embedded myself in French cinema. thank you! lavenderblue19
You are Very Welcome, Memphisgirl The ending is slightly different than you remember, but I don't want to do a spoiler. I loved the film as well. TCM does have the film, hopefully it will be shown again at some point next year. Happy Holidays!
