Here's another goodie I had the luck of watching last week, which would be a great "loan" for TCM to get (from Universal).

I just want to say that I didn't expect it to be on the same level as "One Hour With You" and "Love Me Tonight", two of the Chevalier-MacDonald Duo, greatest films...and, IMHO, I was wrong!!! It stands perfectly on the same ground as both of them...especially considering it was released in 1929, three years before the two other pictures.

It's not a "creaky", "stagy" musical at all...I found it fresh, joyous, witty...full of tongue-in-cheek situations...with a luminous performance by MacDonald...a charismatic (as always) one by Chevalier...funny support from Lillian Roth and Lupino Lane...superbly directed by Ernst Lubitsch, one of the Masters of the "7th Art".

A must-see!

I totally agree with you. This film is a definite must see. Jeanette MacDonald has always been a favorite of mine. She's never better than with Chevalier. She was great with Eddy but she was wonderful with Chevalier. Just watching her pre MGM films anyone can see what made her a great star.
