I am very much looking forward to watching MONSIEUR VERDOUX tonight as I have never seen this movie before, as well, I have never seen Martha Raye in a movie.

Thank You for your post :)

You are welcome!

Martha Raye sort of steals this film, if you can believe it. Yes, there is someone who could actually walk away with a Charlie Chaplin film. She's brilliant, and of course, so is he.

Until recently, I did not know Martha Raye ever starred in a movie, I always assumed she was a TV Star.

That is the beauty of TCM and the Boards, providing us with a great learning experience!

Thanks to people such as yourself for keeping it alive. :)

After MR. VERDOUX, she focused on radio and television, plus she continued to do her exhaustive USO work for the troops.

She originally signed with Paramount and was under contract with the studio in the late 1930s. Some of those films are available at Netflix. She never disappoints.

Supposedly, she began her professional career at the age of 3 on stage. I don't doubt it! She was a consummate pro.

A movie I have found very enjoyable (it used to be on the old Million Dollar Movie in NYC) was Navy Blues. Martha Raye is excellent in a big supporting role. The film also stars Ann Sheridan, Jack Oakie, Jack Haley, Hebert Anderson, Jack Carson, and Jackie Gleason in a very small role.

NAVY BLUES was the only film Martha Raye made for Warner Brothers, and I agree she's excellent in it, as always.

She would have a recurring role on the television series Alice, which was also a Warner Brothers production.

DIAL 1119 is not being shown in Canada. I am looking forward to watching TENSION as well as MAN IN THE ATTIC (1953) with Jack Palance. I had no idea that Jack Palance has been around that long !

Not having seen either movie as well as some recent ones that have been shown, I can't help but feel somewhat like a 'Kid in a Candy Store'

Thank You for listing these movies, I always look forward to them. :)

Agree. Noir and Rossellini. Great stuff.
