June Allyson

She's living in Ojai, California, which is supposed to be a beautiful area of the state. She was married, but I don't know if her husband is still living. I assume he is, since I think he's a little younger than she. She still signs autographs through the mail, so I assume she's doing well, since she's nice enough to sign for her fans.

You're welcome gwtw, and if you'd care to write to her, I can give you her address. Also, now that I think of it, there's a website devoted to June, it's www.juneallyson.com. It's not her website directly, but I think she's aware of it, and is supportive of the fans that started it for her. It hasn't been updated in awhile, but there are some nice, fairly recent photos of her at the Judy Garland festival in 2002.

One of my favorite actresses, its hard to believe Ms. Allyson is 87 years old. She used to be good for signing autographs through the mail. Unfortunately, I heard she is not in the best of health these days.

It's so interesting--I watched Good News (1947) last night, and my husband had also included on the recording a Vitaphone short with June Allyson in it. It was made in 1937 when June was very blonde and rather "boopsie" in personality.

I don't dislike June Allyson, but when watching Good News I always wish that Mel Torme and Joan McCracken had had the lead roles. Their musical talent far exceeded that of Allyson and Peter Lawford (whom I also like very much; don't get me wrong!) in my opinion.

It's also rather funny to see how little effort was put into making the women's fashions look like the 1920s instead of the 1940s. This was the same studio that did an excellent job of capturing the 1920s only five years later in Singin' in the Rain (on which the same writers and some of the same musicians worked).
