JOHNNY COOL (1963)

Recommended Posts

Johnny Cool was on THIS a few months ago, when I saw it for the first time. Not bad, pretty violent. Henry Silva does well in the lead - and the ending is a beaut. But it's almost comical how he can show up just about anywhere, blow somebody away, and keep getting away with it. Jim Backus is over the top, doing his Mr. Magoo laugh off-camera; that was just plain silly. The rest of the cast is pretty good.

It's a United Artists release. It can currently be found at Netflix streaming. The picture was directed by Montgomery's then-husband William Asher. And co-produced by Peter Lawford, which explains the appearance of his buddies Sammy Davis Jr. and Joey Bishop.
