Two 90-minute episodes of Alias Smith and Jones will show up in the near future on the Encore Westerns channel. These rare episodes, starring Ben Murphy and Peter Deuel, are typically not part of the regular syndication package and distributed as stand-alone movies. They are actually 74-minutes long (minus commercials).

The first entry, which is the pilot and the very first episode of the series, is called ALIAS SMITH AND JONES. It will air on May 10th, May 11th & May 27th.

The second one, which was the second season opener, is titled THE DAY THEY HANGED KID CURRY. It will air on June 1st and June 6th.

>Peter Duel..Such a sad waste of a life. Too many demons?

Probably.

The filming of the KID CURRY movie put the producers in a bit of a time crunch, because it took 11 days to film, as opposed to the 6 days usually needed for a regular full-length episode. So they were already starting to fall behind schedule when Deuel committed suicide. As a result, Universal only shut down production for one day when he died. They immediately recast the part with Roger Davis and quickly reshot the scenes Deuel had done in an unfinished episode so they could move forward.

Incidentally, Davis is still living and active in show business. He also served as narrator of the early episodes, so his voice can be heard in these two movies.

I'm glad to hear that. I remember him best for that *Twilight Zone* episode, Spur of the Moment, which was on *MeTV* last week. It's such a shock when we see his character, not the other guy, turn out to be the man Anne married but shouldn't have and turns the fairy tale upside down. And he just turned up on a *Bonanza* episode with Ben Johnson. So many folks aren't around to know their work is appreciated.
